Anybody rebuilt a Schwitzer turbo?

Just as the title asks... Has anyone here rebuilt a Schwitzer turbocharger?

I am trying to track down some replacement bearing assemblies for a Schwitzer that I need to rebuild. I have a replacement shaft and ceasing nut, but can't find a bearing set. I have located a couple of places on line that sell rebuilt center units, less the compressor housings, but they want an arm and a leg for them, and they aren't very forthcoming with info on where to locate bearings (I don't blame them)

Unfortunately, when Schwitzer was bought out, it seems much of the info on their turbos just disappeared :(

Any info you can provide is greatly appreciated!

You may be better off upgrading to something newer like a used GT. What is it going on?

I wish I could!
It's the turbo on a historic race car that a client/friend of mine is Extremely particular about.

I can't say I blame him, I feel the same way about my indy car, just not quite to that extent. Then again, mine isn't in concours condition!

I can get a rebuilt unit for about $4K but he isn't real keen on it since it wouldn't be the ORIGINAL turbo. And none of th companies I have talked to will rebuild his core :(

Thanks for the advice.

I have a feeling your looking at machining the parts yourself or sourcing NOS parts.

Both are pricey.

It does not sound like he was against the $4k price tag. Why not get the rebuilt unit and use the parts out of it to rebuild the original?

try precision turbo in indiana

Tobster, Unfortunately once the spindle is assembled, it can not be taken apart, as the nut on the compressor vane is permanently fused.

Fear not, I tracked down a company that sells a full rebuild kit for the turbo :)

NICKG, thanks for the connection to Precision Turbo. They didn't carry the Schwitzer parts I needed, but they do have an incredible selection of inventory!

Thanks again.
