Thanks for posting this; had heard about the price decrease but not the credit. And, of course, I bought an 8GB (although for a star employee).

What did they sell, half a million iPhones?

So this amounts to a $50 million rebate on a product that's already in high demand? Can you even imagine Microsoft doing anything similar? I can't.

Jobs is brilliant.

This is just like the rebates Porsche sent out to late 964 buyers when the 993 came out.

Want to bet the $100 off will be on a purchase of $500 or more?

I read it as a $100 in store or on-line store credit. I think it will be that simple, no small print.

Get something for $100 free.

Very Jobsian.

Best,

Kurt

Bought an iPhone from the Apple store on Monday. Showed up yesterday. Called them today.

They credited my card right there on the spot.

Hope so, for those that bought.

Either way, it'll drive half a million people to the store or online where they'll no doubt buy something else 'while they are there'. Marketing at it's best.

I am in no way an apple or Jobs hater, but I don't think this is being done for the people. It's profits pure and simple.

Eeeeeevillll! Don't let Jobs abuse you like that! Don't take the money. Don't drink the Kool-Aid.

Jesus and Bush love Stevie. Bill does not.

Why that's like getting 50 ring tones (and the full song) for free!

"we need to do a better job taking care of our early iPhone customers as we aggressively go after new ones with a lower price. " --Jobs.

So, in other words; thanks for the dance . .. b'by. (oh wait, have some ring tones)

Scooter 09-06-2007 01:32 PM

Now I can buy that iBook I have been wanting. :D

Are you real? Seriously.

lendaddy 09-06-2007 01:34 PM

I see this as a simple "oh ****, our biggest asset is our zombie-like loyal customers and they're pissed, appeases them quick!"

Mule 09-06-2007 01:34 PM

does this mean I should want one now?

Are you serious? . . .$50 million, pfft.

First of all, you are not doing the math right. An "instore credit" of $100 is like giving back $30-something.

As to the EVIL Microsoft giving back, see: http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=gates+foundation&form=QBRE

nostatic 09-06-2007 01:54 PM

uh, I hate to break it to you but Gates Foundation isn't Microsoft. They're kinda differently structured organizations ;)

Among the corporate "good citizens" supporting Houston's charities, environment, education and the arts, few -- if any -- had deeper pockets than Enron.
