Hey, I knew we had something in common!

Those three - plus Octane (the single best classic car magazine), Cooks Illustrated and Vanity Fair.

New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Economist, that's about it. Oh, Cooks Illustrated too. Excellence sometimes. Sometimes a French news magazine when I find an international magazine place.

I subscribed to Foreign Affairs for awhile, decided it wasn't worth it - very interesting, articulate, persuasive articles by people who often turn out to be just flat wrong - like Max Boot who spent 2003 and 2004 writing about what a tremendous success the Iraq War had been. The articles do make you think, that's good, but not worth the expense and time to me. It's available in the library anyway.

If I had more time, some magazines I like reading and would subscribe to: Car, Wooden Boat, Guns & Ammo, Rider (is it still around?), Fine Homebuilding.

Car & Driver
Flying
Plane & Pilot

All I have time for these days. Those I miss: Fine Homebuilding, Fine Woodworking, Excellence, all the other car magazines I used to get.

Excellence
Automobile
Panorama
Potpourri (local PCA rag)
American Rifleman

Z-man 09-07-2007 07:59 AM

My short list:
Grassroots Motorsports
Road & Track
Excellence
Pano
Porscheforus (My PCA region's magazine)

On occasion, I will pick up at the local Barnes & Noble the following:
Automobile
The Economist
Consumer Reports (Though I hate the fact that they are so blatantly biased...)
Any other car magazine that has Porsche content...

Wired
Cigar Aff...
Time
Pano
Air and Space
AOPA
Business and Commercial aviation
Aviation week
Jag World
911 & Porsche World
Flying
& more I do not remember...

I do not pay for 99% of these, instead trading frequent flier miles for free subs. Take them out on the road with me, read them and leave them for others to read. Otherwise when at home I donate them to the barber shop I use.

I now rip out articles, highlight the important info and write a brief on the topic with the reference. Otherwise the stack gets stupid big each month!

Octane
This Old House
Fine Woodworking (a gift from a friend who thinks I'm better than I am, should have "Rough Woodworking")
The Atlantic

911boost 09-07-2007 02:39 PM

Car & Driver
Pano (really only look at the tech and cars / parts for sale)
Parenting (wifes)
Cooking something or other (wifes as well)
Consumer Reports

For those of you that say you don't read, what do you do when you taking the kids to the pool, or making a deposit in the round bank? That's about the only time I read magazines, or on planes.

Excellence (best magazine i have EVER subscribed to)
Car & Driver (for some non p-car content)
NRA freebie mag (typical gun rag nonsense)
Panorama (possibly the worst magazine i have EVER had a subscription to; do look at classifieds though)

Hoping to add a few this Christmas including Octane (based on comments here), Vintage Motorsports, 911 & Porsche World.

Also get the local PCA newsletter which is good for event calendars.

i absolutely require a fair amount of old fashioned book/magazine reading weekly to stay sane. it's good to get away for a few minutes in the library (throne room).

I also read a co-workers Automobile, Car & Driver and Road & Track. I take my rags to work, and he does the same.

My wife gets Parenting and Paula Dean's magazine. We also get Better Homes and Gardens, but neither of us subscribed to it...

From the suggestions here, I think I'll check out Octane.

Over time, the cost of flying to Europe and back will put you in financial trouble...not to mention the expense of the Mistress herself.

Still a muscle car/hot-rod type at heart. This whole 'Porsche thing' is just a momentary distraction. (I think??)
