Police Slang

Anyone know where I can find a dictionary of police slang. I heard some cops in public talking about "mopes", "moapes" (since I am not sure what it means I also am not sure how to spell it either) it is pronounced, MOE-P. Anyone have any idea what this mean? By the context I know it is a noun, and sometype of person. Thanks

I tired google in every way I could come up with. I kept getting these more PC sites where they went over radio 10 codes and stuff like that.

"DWO = Driving While Old". LOL! Nice to see some of the guys in L.E. actually have senses of humor.

Isnt most every word they use a acronym or rooted in something else? I am failing to see how "mopes" is rooted in anything. Any idea?

KWM My Father was a cop, and this is how he explained it to me.

Mopes are the guys moping around, looking for something to steal. Or the guys with the stolen property moping around because they think they have been treated unfaily by the cops.

I thought moping was explained in Revenge of the Nerds as exposing oneself to a blind person.

Where did "popo" (referring to the police) originate?

From "urban Dictionary"

1. POPO
A Police officer. especially the ones that rides on bikes.

Orgin: California late 80's

police officers that patrols certain beaches on bikes wore a vest that said PO in huge blockletters on each of their chest. which means Police Officer. they usually ride around in group of two's.

when you see them coming by. you see the word "PO" "PO" when they stand next to each other.

IMO it stems from certain parts of black slang because I remember when I was doing a lot of Gangsta Albums there were always rappers named "Dai Dai" and "Ree Ree" and "La La" and "Po Po" seems to fit right in.

I just noticed how accurate the "urban dictionary" is; all the way down to the bad grammar and syntax. Seriously. I just did copy-and-paste. Classic.

Which reminds me, can we change the title of the sticky "Porsche's on the dragon"? Please?

they can be piece officers too. not "peace", but "piece" as in the firearm.

another quick 50 story. i was being harassed by a park ranger up off a local mountian road in a vista point about the way i was parked, backed in. giving me do-do about being a "porsche guy" thinking i could park any which way and not having a front license plate. so as officer law, i shat you not "officer law", says so right there on his name badge writes me a ticket. i can only laugh that i am being cited by "officer law" and his fix-it for no front plate...

you hear me cliffy's brother ?

I have to hand it to the Police though, if I were a cop and had to deal with these losers all day I would come up with something way more hatefully than mope.....and I would shoot a lot more people too.

And oh yhea, do you have any idea the salary they pay cops......it is flippin ridiculous. The salary + dealing with *******s all day would easily = me shooting probably several people a year.

My dear, sweet, Father told me that he would kick the ever - lovin' **** out of me on a daily basis if I ever even THOUGHT about being a Police officer. I'm 38, and he's 66 now. I STILL honestly believe he could do it!

He was from the old school, not the new para - military kiddie cops that are prevalent today.

He believed that you should talk , and treat people as you wish to be treated, and talked to. No matter what the circumstances, no matter the social status of the person. Until they prove you wrong, any way. Then all bets are off.

He had to quit being the Chief when the mayor had a party. Dad wrote quite a few parking tickets that night. Unfortunately, they were all to the mayors guests who were parked in a no parking zone.

My Father really is my Hero.

Around here, back in the late '70's, it meant: Driving while Oriential

DWHUA: Driving with head up ass........

For gang killings, (LAPD slang): NHI= no humans involved...

What does "break leather" mean? I once heard a cop tell a disorderly person, "don't make me break leather..."
