FOX RIVER GROVE, Ill. (AP) -- A vegan middle school teacher says he's not going back to class until the school stops serving milk and meat.

Dave Warwak has been a teacher at Fox River Grove Middle School for eight years.

The 44-year-old became a vegan in January and believes the school is "feeding poison" to students. He also believes the school's posters featuring milk are wrong.

A self-solving situation if there ever was one.

Rick Lee 09-11-2007 07:33 AM

Why is that even in the news? I'd fire him the first day he missed and be done with it.

azasadny 09-11-2007 07:36 AM

I agree with him, as long as they allow prayer in schools (just kidding).

Shaun @ Tru6 09-11-2007 07:42 AM

What's with all the fruitcakes in the Midwest these days?

Sad thing is, thanks to the teacher's union he's probably tenured, and getting paid to stay home. Anyone else recall my previous comment on vegan vs. vegetarian?

Can you imagine the BS he tries to push onto his students?

Shaun @ Tru6 09-11-2007 08:22 AM

I would have preferred he saying that he'll hold his breath until they take the poster down.

It would be great if all his kids came into class with cow, pig, chicken, fish costumes on, animal heads being constructed on top of (above) the kids' heads and then kids from another class could come in and chop the animal heads off with blood spurting everywhere.

1fastredsc 09-11-2007 08:29 AM

I would say that if there was a demand from the students to provide an alternative veg only meal to vegetarian students, then great. But to have this d*ck trying to push his personal agenda down the throats of his students is garbage. School is supposed to be a place of open minded learning, and this a$$ hat apparently forgot that his students are supposed to be encouraged to develop an opinion of there own.

sammyg2 09-11-2007 08:31 AM

Too often the extremists are not happy with just making their own decisions, they want to control ours also.

The decide they don't want to eat meat or whatever, but that isn't enough for them. They want us to think the same way they do.
They should live their lives the way they want and let everyone else have that same freedom of choice.
I say to heck with these nutcases and F-U Rob reiner.

We're exporting it from SoCal:D

I could not care less if the guy wants to be a vegan or a whatever. My issue is prosletyzing ANYTHING to the kids. You got hired to teach whatever the district or school board decided was the curriculum for that middle school so THAT'S what you teach.

You want to teach or include personal viewpoints? Fine, its America, freedom of speeach and all that....but not at work. Run it past the administration. If they're okay with it run it past the parents; the kids are THEIR kids, NOT YOURS! If they say no, it FRIGGIN NO A-hole. Shut up and do your job.

I understand WANTING others to feel as you do; I even understand feeling passionate about it. I do not understand how some DON'T understand you can't insist on it.

Rick Lee 09-11-2007 09:54 AM

Sadly, I think schools are so hard up for teachers that they will give them a pretty long leash before they fire them. I don't think people are lining up for bum paychecks to teach unruly kids that cannot legally be disciplined and deal with parents who won't let their kids be disciplined.

pwd72s 09-11-2007 10:00 AM

Today's government schools don't teach. They indoctrinate.

onewhippedpuppy 09-11-2007 10:11 AM

It always amuses me that these people think they know more than nutritionists, i.e. scientists that study foods and healthy eating habits for a living. Dave's 7 months of vegan living has made him far smarter.

He should tell the media he's relenting and plans to go back tomorrow, and then not show up again. :D:D:D:D:D

:rolleyes:Paul, You're sounding more and more like you've acquired a case of "Bitter Older Man Syndrome".

If god didn't want us to eat animals he wouldn't have made them out of meat.

Just saying.

Evans, Marv 09-11-2007 07:32 PM

The District is no doubt paralized over this for fear of a lawsuit.

masraum 09-11-2007 07:36 PM

what a wanker!

Joeaksa 09-11-2007 07:41 PM

And we wonder how the kids turn out the way they do. With wacko teachers like this its no wonder.

Porsche-O-Phile 09-11-2007 08:06 PM

I'm vegetarian (have been for over 20 years) but I don't care if anyone else decides to follow suit or not. Personal choice - just like smoking, drinking or doing drugs far as I'm concerned.

The school should be teaching NUTRITION, not simply one aspect of it. Put it out there as an option for a healthy lifestyle (along with all the others) and let the kids decide for themselves what will/won't be appropriate for their lifestyles.

Oh wait, that would be encouraging kids to think critically and that's not allowed in the "no child left behind" school system. Silly me.

Victor 09-11-2007 09:11 PM

Don't eat anything that didn't have parents or a face.

DARISC 09-11-2007 09:33 PM

Anybody know if there's an animal on Earth with canine teeth that doesn't eat meat?

Capt. Crunch 09-11-2007 10:59 PM

How about a vegan with an AR-15? What then? lol

Most plants reproduce sexually.

I see faces in my potato chips.

Porsche-O-Phile 09-12-2007 04:25 AM

Hey, some people see faces in their grilled cheese sandwiches too!

Even corporate America get's the nod over this nut job.

"The 44-year-old became a vegan in January and believes the school is "feeding poison" to students. He also believes the school's posters featuring milk are wrong."

I can't argue with that.

- this "nut job" promotes fruits and vegetables, and is willing to put his job on the line.

- Ronald McDonald promotes dead cow burgers, greasy fries, and milk-shakes, food full of saturated fat, calories, sugar, and cholesterol.

Which one is more dangerous to our kids. btw, Ronald has a 200 Million $ marketing budget.

Mule, your logic is undeniable.

Now THAT's funny!

I didn't know McDonald's ran the food service in any public schools. I never once had McDonald's for a school lunch. Even now that I work within walking distance of one, I go there maybe a few times a year, when the lines are too long at the better places nearby.
