Boy's in college! Time to say bye, bye; you're on your own man!
I haven't been in college for sometime; but the ones that came right out of high school on the parents buck; well, they never amounted to a hill of beans IMHO. Life is a multi-task function. In college you gotta learn how to get straight A's, Party hard & be independent. You carry the boy & he'll never be a multi tasker, thus will miss the top shelf of life. Take it with a grain of salt though; my boy was out at 16 and never went to college. He's smart and could've done anything he wanted; he wanted to party all the time. Today he's 23, works by the hour and lives with a couple guys that work by the hour. He is a happy, go lucky guy. My daughter, 26 also never went to college; she travelled the world, met a guy, got married and has two kids now. She's a very nice person and is very happy. Next kid is in grade 12, wants to go to college too. She's looking at places in California? Ha, ha. NOT on my dime. I've told her that I would love to send her to college, but if she expects me to pay anything; it'll be on my terms. None of this .......... "what are you going to be? Ah, I dunno, I'm just taking a bunch of courses; maybe this or maybe that?" I've told her to pick her career; then find someone that has that career and get a job with them. Learn everything you can about the career, the lifestyle it provides, the pros and cons. After 1 full year of working in the career of your choice, if you want to go to college and get a diploma in that career; then I will pay the whole shot. Without that, not a nickel. I did a career study of many careers before choosing mine. Construction Engineering. Worked for me. Good luck with the boy. Maybe a thought........ let him read this thread? |
I started to have the "you're off to a good start, mdon't blow it..." speech, but he beat me to it. He fessed up he started out on the wrong foot and now realizes he should have buckled down a little earlier on. He's actually disappointed he didn't have at least a 3.5...vows to kick it up a notch next semester.
We'll see... Kinda suprised me how much he has matured this past 4 months. |
