Looking for a good light beer
Good light beer - is there such a thing?
I have been trying to switch to light beer to shave a few calories while drinking on the weekends. Anyone try one they like. I tend to like the American style Lagers. Been a Bud drinker since college. I enjoy a nice Ale from time to time but always go back to watered down US style beers. Can't stand Budlight. Have tried Natural light, Mil Best light, Miller light, Busch light, Mich Ultra and Light - not real happy with any of them. |
Becks light. The only decent one.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

Oxymoron.

Cyclone lager at my local Rock Bottom isn't too bad. A bit weak, but easy to drink and tastes okay.

Blue Moon is the lightest beer I drink...

Just drink Guinness and don't eat.
In all seriousness I have never found a light beer that maintains flavor. With most of them you might as well have a glass of water. Then again I am more into ale than lager so my tastes are somewhat skewed. I might have to do some research though. The Becks sounds promising and everything else they make is pretty good. I even had one of their NA low alcohol beers once and it was pretty decent. I don't recall exactly why, but the circumstances were probably pretty desperate so please don't hold that against me. |
Mexican beers are pretty light, at least in taste and how they don't swell in your belly.
I like Sol the best. http://thumbnail.image.rakuten.co.jp...beer-pack2.jpg |

I also like Sol, but it's never in bars here. I'm sure it's just cheap Mexican beer, but I like what I like:D

Amstel light is pretty good, but lately, vodka and "diet" Coke is more to my liking :D

ps: I don't drink that many beers either (anymore)... pps: There is no such thing as a "good" light beer, the search is over! |
I like Sol too. Better taste than Corona. Yuengling is my fave. Regular and Light
|
Sam Adams light isn't that bad for a light beer. It has some taste and isn't that watered down - for a light beer

But it is not likely available in bottles. Sam Adams makes a light... haven't tried it. You know what the rest of the world says "American beer is like making love in a canoe... f**king close to water" |
Then again, I have aquired a taste for my "Jersey Swampland" homebrew. My first batch was horrible. But Ive gotten better....

Sam Adams
Amstel That pretty much covers it for me and light beer. |

Unfortunately, alchohol = body and taste. |
Just drink Guinness and don't eat.
I won't drink Guinness in the States. I drank allot of it while in the UK last year and I have never tasted a more smoother and creamer beer. The Brits tell me 'it doesn't travel well' and I believe it. But I like the concept. If you are going to drink beer, drink a good one and don't eat; and of course, drink responsibly. Having said that, Amstel light is a beer that is ok for a light beer |
Sam light is quite good, enough so that I have to quesiton how light it actually is.
|
Here's a trick I like.
Select any beer you like and add plain or lime flavored sparkling mineral water to taste. Instant light beer! KT |
Think ourside the bottle- instead of quafing say 6 regular beers, if can hold yourself to 5, you will have had the equivalent of 6 light beers, thus saving maybe 140 calories. An added benefit is you can brag to the wife you are cutting down all on your own! I have already field-tested this theory and works as long as a friend doesn't start doing shooters. Then it all collapses into the usual result, too many calories again.

Not to mention that Guinness is nutritionally complete with the exception of Calcium and Vitamin C. You can get complete ADA requirements from 47 pints/day....

Light Beer Pick any two. |
Light Beer
As been mentioned...Sam Adams.

Sam Adams apparently gets the most votes - I will pick up some on the way home tonight.

Light Somehow I don't feel very refreshed! As long as we are on the subject, does light beer have the same alcohol content as regular? What is the difference in calories? Sure I could look it up myself but I have big important things to do... like... take this threadlock back to the shop I borrowed it from... besides I know one of you lushes already researched it anyway. :D |
Generally speaking - when you lower the alcohol content the calories go down which gives you light beer. Light beers are around 4% and regulars are about 5%. Guiness has 4% and 125 calories with Budlight being 4.2% and 95 cal.

lite beer.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/a_frusty.gifhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/a_frusty.gifhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/a_frusty.gif i don't ingest anything with the words lite or diet. whats the point? the flavor is always ruined when you change from the original recipe. found some Coca-Cola imported from Mexico at Costco last night made with REAL CANE SUGAR. cooling in the fridge. cant wait to taste the difference, seems the stuff up in Canada is the real stuff too. did you know the stuff we get in the states made with corn syrup? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/drink.gif |
Tried the Bud Select? It is what I put in my kegerator for the same reasons you listed (normally a Bud drinker) flame on people..... :D

I used to work with a Belfaster out of Australia. He ONLY drank Guiness and a couple of Irish whiskies, and in a big way. He was scathing of the Foster's made Guiness in Australia, especially usually after he had returned from Ireland. We travelled to the US on one occassion and he felt the US brew was much closer to Irish. |
I have to agree on the Guinness to some degree. It is best fresh on draught, but the bottles travel OK, and the cans with the widget are pretty good too. The bottled Guinness with the 'widget' is the best combination outside of a pub.
You guys are right about the calories I think. I only started to put weight on when I stopped going out with the guys and drinking 8 or 10 pints every Friday and Saturday night. Maybe it was because we skipped eating to get more beers in? Shockingly irresponsible. |

Its true. Beer cant hurt you. Less calories and fat than skim milk. Its the crap that you eat when you are drinking beer thats the problem. |
