Texas Smashmouth - A Young Boys Future
So da Boy had his second game on Saturday. He did well. He was running back for the first half and center for the second and he played defense - mostly middle linebacker all game. He had some great carrys - would have been better if he didn't try to 'Riggins' his way through the line! Gots ta teach da boy dat dis is flag not tackle - game of finese doncha know. He will learn.
He happen to tell me after the game as we walked back to the car... "Dad, I know you want me to play Soccer like you did but Dad, Soccer is my past, Football is my present and future." To that end, he started lifting weights a few weeks ago - nothing too much, just some curls, overheads and flys as well as push-ups and gut crunches. I know there are those of you that will say that 8 years old is too young to lift. I guess maybe he should sit around and eat ring dings as he plays video games? Nope, not this knuckle head!   Ya gotta love his sense of style! He did his lifting after his yardwork chores which included cutting the back and weedwacking.    Boy does have some size - 90lbs of roughness fo sho...

90 lbs as an 8 year old? Football may be his sport for real. My sons barely broke 60 lbs at 8 years old. Your boy would squash them like bugs on the gridiron! |

Mike,
Great that he is playing flag football. My parents would not let me play Pop Warner, just flag leagues since I was always way above the height curve (over 6 ft at 12) Don't let anyone tell you it is better to play Pop...I had a very respectable high school run mostly because football is football, and flag gets rid of the "Riggins" issues until they are needed.
