I almost don't need to either, it's had a dramatic difference along this road. People are driving much, much slower. I'm particularly happy to see habitual speeders slowing down. These are people I'd see day in, day out doing 75+ kph. Now they are doing 50-60. Three people who I photographed have contacted me. One guy promised to slow down if I took his photo down. Surprisingly, another guy said to leave his photo up... his son saw it online and he thought it was an important lesson. Another guy was a bit cranky... I offered to take his picture off if he'd just slow down. He never replied. Any feedback I've had from people who live on this road has been 100% positive.... they love it. Also, the local police have contacted me and are very supportive. I've had a few nasty emails from people who don't even live in town; I don't concern myself with them. All in all, for a few hours worth of effort, it's been very successful. Much more so than I would have anticipated. It's made peopel realize that they need to think beyond police & fines. There are PEOPLE who live here. I was very happy to see that Cashflyer started his site: The Ellen Woodside Memorial Spint http://www.ellenwoodside.org/ I think these sites are REALLY effective... much more than any public service announcement or newspaper story. It makes drivers think about the people who LIVE in the areas they are speeding through. I'm working on a trophy to give out at the end of the year. I'm thinking of something like an SUV with a baby carriage in the bumper |

According to snowman, "Orange CO CA took in over 300 MILLION last year in tickets."
Tickets aren't about generating revenue? Try telling that to the people who paid the money. Better yet, look at the county's budget and see where they would be without the money. They count on every penny of that revenue stream. |
I heard this story the other day and thought it must be about notfarnow -- the guy even owns a Porsche!

I am currently fighting a ticket for a left turn on red. The light turns out to be set for a 25mph speed zone with a 3 second yellow. Its a 50 mph zone and the mininum yellow is supposed to be 4.7 seconds, thats MINIMUM. The traffic code is all purposely mambo jumbo about this. It uses statements like SHOULD instead of SHALL, so I expect to lose this case of what should be black and white. I claim that I entered the intersection before the light turned red, by a fraction of a second. If the light were set properly I would have entered the intersection by at least 1.7 seconds before it turned red. I think its just another con where the good ole boys set the rules and everyone else loses. My respect for traffic law just went down several notches to below con men and wife beaters.
