Again......"After the electric car program in California was killed, and the EV1s were crushed, GM sold the NIMH patents to Chevron/Texaco, who formed the company "Cobasys". Cobasys sued Panasonic and Toyota (the only other carmaker using NIMHs in an electric car, the RAV 4 EV), and stopped the manufacture of EV sized NIMH batteries."

A manufacturer suing to stop production of its own product? That wasn't clear enough?
It seems the Texas oil conglomerates see the end of big oil too, and are trying right now to maintain their future monopoly over personal-transportation energy sources.

It sucks to have an openly-competative free market economy, doesn't it? Goes against the democratic/capitalist system I guess.

It seems the battle of the multinational giants, and patent rights, is about to begin:

http://www.evworld.com/blogs/index.cfm?page=blogentry&authorid=51&blogid=104
"Toyota has announced that they intend for all of their models, every single vehicle they offer, to all be hybrids by 2010.
That is quite an ambitious goal, and so they have staked their company's entire future on hybrids. But in so doing, they are completely at the mercy of Cobasys, which literally has them by the balls."

Where is the federal Anti-Trust department? You should be convinced by now, Sammy, let's repeat that last sentance: "A manufacturer suing to stop production of its own product?"

I don't know about the 200mpg carb but an adiabatic engine is a crude name for a sterling engine. It and the ericson engine are the only two engines that come very close to the perfect carnot cycle. Unfortunately the sterling engine is very unpractical in vehicles because of not being able to properly throttle the engine. It's an external combustion engine, and after adding heat to it it takes a good 5 to 10 seconds before it reacts and settles into a steady state larger load output. Imagine the worst turbo lag x10. If you are interested in messing with one, you can buy these little working models of sterling engines. Just place something to burn under the heater side, light it up, spin the crank and it just goes and goes until you put out the burning element.

They sued another company to get them to stop producing their product. they call that patent infrigement and a law suit to stop is it normal, it is not a conspiracy. Geez.

Fortunately, the future is determined by the market, not by some nutbag in a Geo.

LOL ....that brings back ancient memories of heated discussions I would have with idiots (conspiracy theorists) that were convinced that oil companies had bought out patents on such a device to keep them off the market/oil prices high/etc.

They had absolutely no understanding of how an internal combustion engine worked and no matter how you tried to explain the relationship of proper air/fuel ratios vs cubic inch displacement, cam timing, valve overlap, critical ignition timing, air flow, etc.... they believed it was happening.

I usually ended with: Well if the carb is the critical component to 200 miles per gallon fuel economy on your 327, 350, 400... cu. in. engine, then just remove the carb. from your briggs and stratton lawn mower, build a manifold adapter and bolt it on!

How's that workin out for ya?
