Best Remote Starter?
Before it gets to be winter here in upstate New York (ETA: next Thursday), I'm going to put a remote starter in the pickemup truck.
Usually, I'd just roll into a reputable shop, ask what they've got and plunk down the Mastercard. However, I was disappointed with the range of the remote I put in the iX, so I figured I'd poll this august body for their preference. What says ye? JP

14 year-old boy.
Pretty expensive, though....

Well, I don't know about your "preferences", but I'd go with an 18 year old Russian girl... JP

I can't imagine idling a cold engine for long periods of time can be very good. I'd get this instead:

kjb -- great stuff! I'll call the Chittenango dealer and see what's up.
Wait... $1795 installed? NFW, dude. Maybe I'd spend $750... given the fuel savings and cold start issue (which is not as big a deal AFAIC) but that's riDICulous pricing. JP

Dan -
That might be hard on the upholstery. I don't think Scotchgard is going to hold up. JP

One came factory in my Silverado. Works great. About 300 ft. range.
From what I understand, most of the aftermarket setups will eventually cause the kind of electrical gremlins that have already driven most of us 944 owners mad. (Dead batteries, blown fuses, things coming on, things not working...)

Don't do it. Two reasons why--
1) Even if it's a great system with plenty of range, the installation will require hacking into the factory harness. It's the hacking, and the hacker who does it, that gives me pause. Most modern wiring harnesses do a good job of keeping moisture out etc., and the process of integrating the system would compromise that. 2) If you wanted to do it yourself, you would have to become an overnight expert in the electrical systems of Nissan pick-me-up trucks. The level of sophistication of modern cars is stupefying: I would not be surprised to find a digital CAN in the car, and the electrical manuals are probably three binders two inches thick. I would rather use what remaining memory capacity I have finding new ways to make the 930 motor HONK like a bad mo fo. 3) Just pay the money back, it's only 47% interest. I would get yourself a big coffee mug that says "G_d, Guts and Guns Made America Great, Let's Keep All Three" and establish a morning PROCEDURE of filling the mug, start the car, drink the coffee, get in the car, etc. "You stop, you pull it out. You go, you push it in. Are you gettin' it?" But that's just my opinion, for me automotive development ended in 1968.

![]() I haven't had any issues (knock wood) with the system in the iX, and yes, I'm apprehensive about the electronics complexity. Maybe call Nissan dealer and ask if there's a factory option that can be installed as a plug-and-play system, retrofit? That'd be expen$ive, no doubt, but it'd be Nissan parts... Johan- that defa stuff is also wicked cool (or hot...) but I'm not looking for a DIY job. JP
