What have I done?
I've really stepped in it this time!!
I volunteered to prepare this tile for my client. It involves removing every 7th tile. The floor is 110 square feet. It's taking about 5 minutes per square foot to finish after marking and cutting out the dots. The empty space will recieve a black dot. It will look awesome when done, but why did I agree to do it for free? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1191905285.jpg KT |
Isn't tile available in the configuration they want? Guess they had the all white already.
At least you'll have the gratification after it's done and looks great. |
Look at it as "goodwill" for the next contract with this customer.
|
I am guessing that they are using it on the floor in a restroom trying to get the original Craftsman style. I found a place a couple years back that makes reproductions of the original bathroom tile in craftsman homes but unfortunately it cost enough that I just took the time to do what you are doing. At least it's only 110 square feet. Good luck!

Prehaps you see this as your hairshirt?
|
Getting custom patterns is expensive and takes 6 weeks or longer to recieve.
The original deal was for the client to do this work. The job got delayed and she gave me a draw in advance. I really appreciated that and offered to do this in return. She said I could charge for it if I wanted. I said no. Yes another contract is pending. ;) I enjoy my work. KT |
because you're a good guy
|
Painful being nice although it usually pays off in the long run!
|
I'm having a hard time getting motivated for 4-5 hours of the same today.
It get's my hand all knotted up holding the knife and cutting aroung each hex tile. Painful. At least with the black insert tiles there is no cutting. Just soak in water for a few minutes and the netting releases. ( Water based adhesive. ) KT |

+1 Face it Trek, you're one of the good guys!:) |
I feel like a ding-a-ling!
I set up a little work area outside with nice weather, view of vineyard, orchard, hills and I have music and drinks all day. I sit in a "comfy chair" as well. It could be worse! The Comfy Chair?!? KT |
beats dig'n ditches don't it!
|
Funny you should say that.
About five feet from my work table is a guy digging a ditch for a sewer line. I like my deal better. :D This tile is going into a 80ish year old house. The wall/wainscot tile is 3x6 white "subway" style. Two connected rooms. One with toilet and vanity. The other with corner neo-angle shower and clawfoot tub. KT |
Cause you're a pro KT :)
Not my taste in floors though...with black tile insets it's going to be very busy looking. I'd go with a less drastic contrast color that pulls in another tile or material. |
I've logged about 8 hours on this and will need another 4 tomorrow.
While drifting off in thought I came to realize that there are around 2400 cut-outs and inserts. I maet the homeowners sister today. She needs two bathroom remodels in Glen Ellen. KT |

After 12 hours of cutting out the pattern and seperating the black tiles from the netting, here's my progress at the end of the day.

That is retro cool.
|
It hurts me to look at it.
Starts to swirl and bend, as well as phantom colors. I gotta get out of there. KT |
What a project!
