I'm looking for a freewheel like yours (11-28) for my old steel Colnago. It's a b!tch climbing with a 22-pound SL framed bike with old Mavic rims, but descents are super stable and really fast.

It's all good.

The most I've heard so far is steel works best for the frame and a 42x12 is the way to go for a crankset/gear.

BTW: for inspiration, here's fellow Pelican Ed Bighi's single speed:
cool

I bought a specialized Langster with a flip/flop hub (single/fixed) over the summer. What a blast. I am currently moving my components from a busted frame geared hardtail to a mountain bike single speed. Notice that the 993 and lift are now gone.

We build them and we ride them, but not all the time

Biking is really enjoyable for me. Especially road bikes. They are the Porsches of the bike world. Such a blast rocketing along on a road bike.

On the grand scale of things, its a relatively cheap sport as well. The bike I am building is only going to set me back about $400 when all is said and done.

Had it out for a 12 mile shake down this evening. No toe clips, no gear shifts. Just bike, power, darkness, traffic, air.

Rocketing throught the night air, the steel frame your magic carpet ride dodging the lumbering SUV beast as the Space Needle reflects off Lake Union......bliss.

As long as you know steel is real, you know enough.
