Question How to fix corrupt mpg file ??

Computer gurus, please help!!

I have a few mpg video files that got screwed up during a file transfer from memory stick to HD. The file size seems correct, but on a W2000 machine the media player refuses to open/play the file, saying it is corrupt. An XP machine opens the file, but gets stuck on the first frame for the duration of the clip.

I tried running chkdsk on the original memory stick, found some errors that were fixed, but still no luck running the mpg files.

Any ideas? Anyone know of a good utility to fix the mpg errors?

Is this video that you shot using a still/video camera/phone?

If yes do they play properly on the original device?

If yes my 1st guess would be a CO/DEC issue.

Is it possible to talk her into dressing up in that outfit again and re-shooting?

Most of the clips (taken on a Sony digi camera) play fine on the camera as well as on the pc. The corrupt files no longer play on the original device. Something got corrupted with some clips on the memory stick during file transfer.

Its my daughter and her friends doing some school project. I can only wish it was something more, um, "creative".

hmmm,

You may be out of luck.

Corrupt files typically are missing chunks of data. Kinda like taking a melon scoop to your brain, the more you scoop out the less functional you become.
