Looks like the "old" Red Sox are back

Puke.

"Just wait 'til next year"

God, what a pathetic display of non-talent from the supposedly fearsome lineup of bats they have.

I suppose anything is possible but I've shut the game off and won't be watching any more ALCS this year.

I might watch the WS. Should be real interesting. I'm hoping the Rockies go all the way - they're truly a deserving-looking team.

Spoken like a true baseball fan! Quiit yer whining.

"Good pitching beats good hitting" is a baseball truism and any baseball fan knows it. The Indians are "on" this post season. The Sox ARE hugely talented, no question but 30 teams have to be defeated to get to the World Series, that never changes.

The Rockies have been on an incredible roll but it isn't a good bet to expect them to roll through the ENTIRE post season similarly. They're young and they will go through a 9 day layoff. That is a recipe for a poor start to the Series for them. Whether Sox or Indians (it'll be the tribe) this will be a Series full of fireworks and great defense.

No doubt. I just can't stomach rooting for any team from Blow-hi-o. Yuk. The fan base is almost as bad as Indiana's. Obnoxious "fair-weather" fans.

I really hope the Rockies kick it - I really do. Those guys look hungry and tremendously talented.

"Good pitching"? More like "average pitching" that the Sox's lineup happened to lie down for. There's nothing spectacular about the Indians' pitching - or the Red Sox's pitching for that matter. It's not so much that the Indians are good (they do have some good talent, but nothing so dominant as to justify the numbers they've been putting up), it's that the Sox have just flat-out sucked. They've done NOTHING offensively except a few lucky, low-score long balls in the last 30-odd innings.

C'mon, Jeff! It's you, me, and CJ as the die hards here kid! Here's a quote from Barstool Sports last night before the game...

Tonight is a Must-Win... for the Indians
I have kind of a different take on tonight’s game – tonight is a must-win game for the Indians. Think about it, if they lose Game 4 and the series is tied at 2, that means all the Red Sox have to do is take 2 out of 3 with Beckett, Schilling and Dice-K, with 2 of those games being at home. Maybe I’m overestimating the Red Sox here, but there’s no way the Indians are taking 2 out of 3 if they lose Game 4 tonight.

You have to assume Beckett will get the job done on Thursday, then it’s back to Boston and the odds that Cleveland wins both Games 6 and 7 at Fenway is 1000-1. That’s why tonight is a must-win for the Indians. If the Sox lose, they still have Beckett going in Game 5, then come back home with Schilling whose had some success in Game 6 of an ALCS. And if it goes to 7, despite last night’s result, you have to like Dice-K over Westbrook at Fenway.

Cleveland is already up 3 to 1, can't go 2-2.

Sox have to win the next 3 to advance. Given how they've been playing, I don't consider it too terribly likely. Possible, yes. They've come back from worse in 2004 against an arguably better Yankees team, without home-field advantage. Likely? No. I'm a realist. Their pitching has been average-to-mediocre. Their hitting has been horrible. NO situational baserunning, no run manufacturing, nothing. Just over-reliance on the long-ball hitters, who have been silent or wasting their swings on solo shots when they're down by 7 runs.

It's the same old Red Sox from 10-15 years ago when they'd strand 2-3 batters on base every single inning. Fundamentals - get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in. They haven't been doing any of the three.

It should be no surprise that the Red Sox are imploding. My father-in-law (a die hard Sox fan, who grew up in Coolidge Corner, just a couple miles from Fenway) has been having fits with his team since mid-summer, complaining of their dreadful offense. The highlight of the season was the month of May, where they won some 22 games or so. It's been a slow, but steady downhill ever since then. Who'd a thought that they could almost blow their lead of 13+ games on the Yankees? But there they were, just a couple weeks to go in the season, and A Rod and crew were only 3 or 4 games behind. I actually thought the Sox would succumb before the end of the regular season. But they always seem to find new ways to painfully let their fans die every fall, don't they. (Well, except for 2004--but that was a once-in-a-lifetime event.)

Yea, I weathered '75, '86 and '03 (and many others, but those are the most notable). Why can't this team get out of its own way now that the supposed "curse" is broken? It's truly disheartening.

I'm still keeping my banners up until the fat lady sings (and she hasn't sung yet), but I'm not wasting any more of my time watching the ALCS this year, given how lousy the play has been. If they SOMEHOW manage a comeback and advance, I have to admit I'll have a hard time rooting for them in the WS - the Rockies look far more eager and hungry for the win - and consequently more deserving.

The Sox need to put Jacoby in the game...

Watch your words there Porsche-O-Phile. I'll remind you that we were in a similar situation in 2004...and you know what happened then.

Two words: Josh Beckett!
