Cool new Airstream "Base Camp"

Time for a hitch on the 911?

Excerpt:

Airstream Basecamp

This streamlined trailer is a springboard for outdoor adventures, not a living room on wheels. Basecamp pays homage to Airstream's past, taking styling cues from Airstream founder Wally Byam's original 1935 Torpedo. Modern-looking and sleek, Basecamp is so light you almost won't know you're towing it. Park and open out the back: a tent option, engineered by outdoor products giant Kelty, gives you sleeping room on the ground to go with the two bunks inside the trailer.

With an added bonus of functionality, Basecamp also provides room to carry your "toys" with you…motorcycles, mountain bikes, cycles, ATV, kayaks, rafts, skis, and more. The Basecamp is roomy enough to sleep two—wrap around windows and skylight increases spaciousness and visibility. Basecamp: Airstream's new vision.

FYI.

Best,

Kurt

Cool! Problem is, there isn't a tow vehicle on the market that looks half as good as that trailer.

A nice alternative to the old Bambi. We've got a 16' fiberglass Dayton (ex UHaul). very light, not much load for a Corvair. This Airstream looks very nice!

pretty cool, but damn, I have priced out new airstreams and it almost stopped my heart. I can't imagine this one is any different.

It is probably pretty clever marketing though, going for the REI crowd that can spend that kind of $$$.

Give me an older 70's / 80's camper any day of the week and I can get it to wherever someone wants to pull this.

I really liked the CCD models. As I recall a 19' version was almost $40K. And while the style is there, there were some workmanship issues.

Still the coolest trailers around...
