Lets say a dog is known to the adoption agency as being non cat-friendly. They adopt it to someone. That person decides that their allergies can't handle the pooch. So they give it to their friend that has cats. One cat ends up dead, dog loses an eye. Or lets say a dog is not a good mix with kids. You get the point.

The agency is the expert in home placement. The adopter is not. Just because the person in this scenario is famous does not make this different. If the people who she gave the dog to fill out an application, and they pass the background check, and the dog is still there, then they should be able to get it.

All I know is what I've heard while trying to change the channel, so maybe I missed something. But unless there's something missing, Ellen is doing a huge disservice to adoption agencies everywhere by demonizing a part of the process which in reality saves dogs' lives.

Agree, except they never checked out Ellen's house either...

I was at a friend's house and his friend came by with a stack of Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes. This guy was wild about the show. Extremely enthusiastic. Eyes glued to the screen. I tolerated a couple of episodes and then had to go outside. Just shows everyone is different. To me, it was a dull show with nothing but whining as dialogue. I've had my share of listening to whining. 25 years worth. Done with that.

Thank goodness it was a dog and not a cat. I'd hate to have to hear this much fuss over Ellen's pu...
I've just realised I probably shouldn't finish this at work.

But the thing is, when it didn't work out WHY does all the resulting "stuff" belong on TV? Why the hell are WE discussing it?

I think I know the answer - it is uber rare when a celebrity shows REAL, unguarded emotion about anything. Apparently it freaks everyone out....

nope. we're discussing it because of the real story: Ellen, in feigning agony and showing poh poh sad girl, tried to put the Smack Down on the animal rescue girl for not submitting to Ellen's dominant manly nature. Lets face it, that young girl essential told Ellen to stop humping her leg . .. Ellen didn't like that.

This is just more proof of why gay couples shouldn't be allowed to adopt kids. If they can't successfully adopt a dog, how do you think it'd possibly work with a child? A straight couple would have been able to get that dog integrated into their household without a problem.

Wasn't my green for sarcasm idea the best idea ever?

Its probably my greatest contribution to society ever.

Yes it was!

When this bombshell of a news story first wracked the nation (possibly even the world!), it was reported that the adoption agency did not allow families with kids below a certain age to adopt really small dogs and that the kid/s in the family that the dog was given to were below that age (I assume that the agency doesn't put puppies up for adoption). If that's their rule, sounds not unreasonable to me.

I'd suspect that the adoption agency would have otherwise checked out the family, confronted and reprimanded Degeneris and let the family keep the dog if their conditions were met - haven't heard anything to the contrary.

Regardless of the size of the dog issue, Degeneris is guilty of breaking the contract she entered into by giving the dog away.

The adoption agency should black-list her, if they haven't already, and sue her for defamation, harassment or whatever other charges that could be made to stick.

What an arrogant, self righteous moron!

Am I the only one that think everyone involved in this situation is wrong?

To that I would add, who gives a rat's ass? As if the pound doesn't already kill thousands of dogs that can't be adopted. But this dog gets the same treatment as an adopted child. People need hobbies, or real jobs.

island911 10-18-2007 12:12 PM

matt, I believe that this was not the pound, but rather a rescue group. (not the same) Also, the rescue groups often work off of donations. How would it work if they sent a request for donation to people who just reply "oh, iggy . . yeah, we got a new living room, he didn't match, so we palmed that flea-bag off on someone named Vicky. . or Vick . . whatever"

rammstein 10-18-2007 12:24 PM

A nice guy named 'Ookie' took the puppy from me. It was adorable, he renamed Iggy 'Appetizer'.

Aerkuld 10-18-2007 12:57 PM

If they can't agree why don't they just have half each?

Maybe every post in this thread should have been green?

Porsche-O-Phile 10-18-2007 03:02 PM

They should've adopted a homo dog. Then they wouldn't have had this problem. This is a job for "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Animal Sanctuary"
