Question Window A.C. / Heat Pump

I need to get one of these units for my brother and was wondering if any of you could recommend a brand to buy or ones to stay away from. It seems most are programmable and have decent energy star ratings.

Thanks in advance.

Tough to go wrong with any of the big brands. We bought a Sears unitl for the tack room in our stable four years ago and it has been flawless.

In the heat mode they cost a bundle to run.

Seahawk, When you say a bundle to run, how do you think (cost wise) it would stack up next to 30 year old base board electric heat? I know there are a lot of variables to my question but I am trying to get an idea if this would be a more economical way for my brother to regulate temps when this house isn't in use.

The folks who helped me build the stable and fences lived next to the stable in a trailer until they moved back to China Lake (he was a Marine Cobra pilot). They had four horses and four dogs.

They decided to keep the two big dogs in the tack room at night and use the window unit for heating. They estimated at least $175.00 for nighttime use only.

The dogs moved back in with them

I imagine that the wall unit would be cheaper than electric base board heat and if he simply wants to keep pipes from freezing, etc. when he is gone then perhaps it is a more economical solution.

I do know folks who have had good luck with Kersosene heaters. Edit: We won't use K heaters in the stable.

I forgot to give you the dimensions: The tack room is 15 x 25 with a 10' ceiling, well insulated.
