96. I missed the planetary ring gear question, as well as the multiple pulley question. I don't know why I answered the way that I did on the ring gear question, I just wasn't thinking.

I was relieved with a 94, I was expecting the worst...

I incorrectly answered that it takes less force to lift the 150lb weight with just the string versus having the string go over a pulley. The "correct" answer is that there is no difference, but apparently they don't take pulley friction into account like I did.
I said the fan rotates in the opposite direction. I assumed their frame of reference was the fan body - guess not. The brakes question asks "What mechanical motion principal do brakes employ", so I answered deceleration instead of friction, being that deceleration implies motion whereas friction does not necessarily. I'll take a half-point hit on that one. The balloon question is just plain wrong. They ask which balloon has the highest atmospheric pressure on the outside? Of course, they all have the same pressure on the outside. It's the inside of each balloon that would have different pressures. I say the piston sucking fuel in is the another way of saying it is forced in by atmospheric pressure. So, officially I got 88% - but I'm not happy about it, and I'm gonna talk to the professor after class. |

Since they didn't mention temperature, it seemed like they were looking for pressure. Quote:

I aced the gears, electrical and fan question. The pulley questions kicked my butt.....kinda ashamed of that ![]() I also missed the brake question, because as others mentioned "friction" does not describe motion. However, I think I deserve a couple bonus points since I figured out that the magnifying glass was the test review.

Got the "friction is the mechanical motion principle" question wrong. water is pumped through tube a higher question wrong. and the most stupid question of all... The naturally aspirtated engine question. How stupid ![]() Speedy

I think the idea behind the balloon question was if all 3 had the same mass of air inside which has the most atmospheric pressure on the outside. The answer would be the smallest balloon due to the high atmospheric pressure reducing the volume of the balloon.

72 on the first try... DOH! But proving that tenacity not pure smarts, is truly my strength, I retook the test, but still only scored 94.
The gear questions were easy for me but the pulley questions threw me. ![]() Steve is taking it right now and will likely smoke me!!! angela
