Say a Prayer for Henry Schmidt

The fire is heading through Fallbrook, CA. Sounds like they are evacuating the whole town through the Pendleton Marine Base to the ocean.

Hang in there Henry - I hope everything works out okay for you and yours!

We would gladly take the rain here, but SoCal needs it much worse than us at the moment. Best of luck to all in the fire's vicinity!!

This was posted by Pelican member azasadny on the SoCal Fires' thread just minutes ago:

"My former home (Fallbrook) is being evacuated and is burning. The firefighters are trying to keep the fire from reaching any more of the town. I feel horrible..."

As was said, Henry's home and business are located in Fallbrook.

Here's wishing you good luck, Henry.

What will save your house up in the canyons is having a sprinkler system on your roof. Keeping the brush etc away from the house...Ice plant works wonders... A gasoline powered pump to pump out your pool if the city water and electricity should fail.

A few years back I was looking to buy a lot in S CA, The only thing that seperated that lot from last big fire that roared across the mountains behind Rancho Cucamonga was a block wall (Kings Ranch top of Carnellian for those of U who live out that way) As it was the fire came within a few blocks of where I lived in Rancho. Surprisingly nothing burned down. only 6 homes were lost in Rancho.

When I was a kid, we had at least 3 major fires up behind our house in Glendora. One came down about 3 blocks away. Later that same summer the whole San Gaberial mountain range went up from Azusa to the East Fork and East over to San Dimas. Then that winter we had a 40 year storm which dumped 39 inchs of rain in apx 3 months on the denuded hills. One mornining Daddy woke me up and I saw the dog swimining in the garage. An earthen dam up the hill gave way and the water came down the hill...Water came up over the top of a 6 foot block wall knocking over about a 250' section of it as it came. It pretty much was a mess.

I used to live in Fallbrook when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton. It's a quaint little town and I feel very bad that it's burning. One of my very good friends had to evacuate his home in Oceanside today. Very sad...

Henry is on the west end of Fallbrook near the downtown. As of Monday that area was still okay. However, the winds have changed and the fire has made some interesting changes as well.

Though I'm not familiar enough with Fallbrook, one of my best friends Gary Emory is. Gary owns Porsche Parts Obsolete, and I believe used to have his shop across from Henry till he moved to Oregon.

Anyway, in speaking to Gary yesterday (Tuesday afternoon), he told me his brother Don Emory (Porsche and Hotrod restorer), lost his house and several project cars in the fire.

Best of luck to all in this horrible situation,

Eric (1 mile from fire in Agoura in 1994....)

In looking at this map from the North County Times, I would say Supertec survived. IIRC, it is located at the left (West) side of town.

Hi Dave
Although there is some truly horrible tragedy here in So.Cal and Fallbrook we were spared any of it.
Me and the guys hope that all those effected by this catastrophic event find some comfort in the fact that you are all in our prayers.

Thanks to all of you who have sent email and phone messages voicing your concerns.

God Bless
