When I was living in 'Frisco five years ago I had a memorable night.

My friend and I were driving around in the inner mission looking for resteraunt parking (while of course surveying the local crack whore census) and we drive past about six guys trying to break into a MR2. I mean, there is a guy cranking away furiously at each door, one at the hood and trunk, and a couple standing around looking nonchallant (haha).

So on Mission street, the main drag, I convince my friend to stop at phone booth two blocks ahead to call the cops. This is at 17th street, where the Nortenos(Mexican gangs) and the Soernoes(South American gangs) scrap for turf. There are a couple guys standing next to the booth. My friend suddenly stops a block short because there is a closer phone, and I get out and call.

While I'm talking with the police, an SUV stops on the other side of the street, a guy gets out and unloads a small caliper revolver at the two from the double yellow, about 25 feet away and hits nothing.
They both start chasing the shooter across the street, hands in pocket, but he jumps into the SUV which tears away.
I relate this over the phone and watch the blue and red lights racing around a few blocks away.

So, we drive around, but still can't find a parking spot on a friday night.
After 45 minutes we loop back to the start, and see those guys are still huddled around the MR2. A cop car rolls by, the window rolls down and words are spoken, then the group walks away.

Neither of my boys would have missed. Even when they were eight years old. Sheesh, what are parents teaching their kids these days? I'm outraged.
