Same thing they did with the betamax. Take a superior format and drive it into the ground, well perhaps not superior, but beta was far superior to VHS, and look at who won that battle by giving away the rights to make it, rather than keeping them closely held.

Sony's track record for the equipment standards that they back seems pretty poor.

If both Blu-Ray and Hd-DVD movie disks weren't so overpriced, they both would be flying off of the shelves. Obvioulsly, the availability of movies is very weak compared to standard dvd. There are countless movies currently being shown on the new directv hd channels that haven't been announced for release. They need to get off of their butts and get more movies out. Bblockbuster has started renting movies on blu-ray but very limited on the titles they offer. It just appears to me that someone on the other end is really too greedy. Release a few movies and people will buy whatever is available. After these title are depleted, release a few more. etc... Even some new releases come out in standard def and not yet in HD. Maybe poor gameplan. I don't know.

Right now, it seems that the strategy with BOTH standards is to release on garbage that nobody would otherwise buy, and then once that all gets soaked up, then they will start releasing movies that I want. Until then, there will be 600 copies of Wild Hogs in BluRay on the shelf.

I'm not an expert in audio/visual, but the problem I see as a consumer with Blu Ray is this ....

Dvd's give a great picture, sound just fine on my surround - so why would I change to a new system that isn't (unless I'm missing something) vastly different to the system I have already invested in?

Matt

The winning format will be, as in the case of VHS v. Beta, CD-Rom and The Internet, whatever format is embraced by the producers and distributors of adult-themed entertainment.

I have been as well, alot of people told me that they could both exist. The Adult Entertainment Industry signed on the HD-DVD awhile ago since again, Sony wouldn't let porn be distributed on their format.

You would think they would of learned, guess not.
