Live Aboard in SoCal

Does anyone know where I can find a liveaboard slip in SoCal for a 35 foot sailboat?

Isn't Marina Del Rey supposed to be the largest marina in the world? I lived aboard a boat there the summer after I graduated from highschool.

Lot's of marinas in San Diego. My best friend's stepdad lives on his 70 footer, and he's been in several different marinas over the years. Pricey, but all have been VERY nice

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Pricy is one thing, but I can deal with that. The 2-8 year waiting lists are another thing.

I'll check places you've all posted that I haven't yet.

I'm on the waiting list for Long Beach - it's non-refundable $75 deposit just to get on the list for a slip (about 3-5 years) and then once you're in with your boat, another waiting list (3-5 more) to get live-aboard. This is what I was told about a year ago anyway.

I can tell you, first hand, that Marina del Rey live-aboard slips are EXTREMELY difficult to come by. You might be able to make some 'campaign contributions' that might get you a little farther up that list...but you didn't hear that from me.

Best,

Cheapest waterfront property you'll ever own in this town. AND you can write it off as a residence so long as it has a stateroom and a head.

Excuse me, I'm just an ignert, land-locked, redneck.

Where do you park if you live on a boat?

In the marina parking lot. You need a permit in most places. Best to have a beater commuter as they rust pretty fast.

In LB, you get a key to the land based heads and showers, too.

It's certainly not for everyone, but here is my friend's stepdad's 72' (beautifully restored wooden schooner, worth more than my house & turns heads even by San Diego standards). He has plenty of room onboard, and since he was/is a defense contractor, "our tax dollars" paid to have it trucked across the country and for his monthly slip fees in the America's Cup Harbor for many years. All the amenities you could ask for on shore (showers, head, etc.) and then some...he has a house out there too, but prefers to live on his "baby". It's a different way of living, and certainly doesn't suck ...

You could purchase my 43' Hunter. It has a liveaboard permit at King Harbor.

If you don't mind rather *ahem* industrial surroundings there are some lower priced marinas in Wilmington/Terminal island area. There are also some marinas in San Pedro but I don't know what the waiting list is like.
