I have put on over 2 MILLION miles at speeds approx limit plus 8 mph. Hardly ever a problem. But, when its SAFE to speed, your the most vulnerable. Like your the only one on the road, 2 am in nowhere New Mexico or somewhere like it. The ONLY other car on the road is in the opposite direction. Turns on instant on about 50 feet in front of you., your screwed, period.

I have successfully traveled from Boston to San Diego with an AVERAGE speed, including all stops of 84 mph, the speed limit was 55 mph. What that means is that I was moving at over 120 mph as much as I could. NO tickets, but that was with a BMW 633CSI. I did the same trip with my M635, somewhat lower speeds, and got 3 tickets! That damn spoiler and racing stripe did it. But again at places where it was actually SAFE to drive fast!

Radar detectors are only good for you noting your speed when you go thru the speed tap. Never really helpful, but nice to know.

I've noticed this with my V1. A few weeks ago, driving in a cluster of 6 or so cars on the interstate, the V1 picked up what must have been the laser tagging all of us in turn. We weren't too far from him, so I can only assume it was scatter.

actually, many new cars that have distance control cruise also set off Laser. Infiniti's FX35/45 is one that is a big culprit.
if you're in a pack of cars in traffic it's usually the case.

So not true on so many levels. I cannot count how many times my V1 saved my butt, both on the interstate and on the surface roads.

I cannot count how many times I have gotten a warning on I95 in Georgia 1/2 to 3/4 a mile before the trap only to watch the guy that blew past me as I moved over and slowed down get pulled over. I think it was a BMW, maybe you?

This is a newer road in town, its a 4 lane divided road that had a speed limit set at 35 MPH, 2 lane roads feeding into it from neighborhoods have a limit of 45. This road was made to be a speed trap. The police would put 1 motorcycle cop in the center median with a laser gun 2 stand off to the side of the road ready to jump in front of you and point you down the side road, and the rest (a good 15 -20 cars) sit on the side road and write them up.

I was in my MINI at the time and my Laser went nuts, I hit the brakes hard and took it from 50 to 30 as fast as I could. Then my V1 went nuts indicating I was being shot by a laser. I then saw the guy about 50 yards in front of me getting pointed to and pulled over.

I got the stink eye from the cop with the laser gun.

just got done with a 3200+mile trip over the turkey day holiday and detector went off multiple times but not once did i get a ticket. WA,OR,ID,UT,WY,CO,NM down and back thru NM,CO,UT,ID,OR,WA.

have sworn by these things for 20+years and the only speeding tickets i ever got, were before i had one or when i was without. most of this trip spent 10+ over the limit.

LEO was using radar mostly in WA,CO,UT. don't think they even bother in WY.

didn't get a single hit in OR and there were plenty out there on the return trip. don't think i was below 10 over there for most of OR, unless the conditions warranted it. that state is notorious with their max 65 enforcement but they didn't bother me once this time.

ID at night is a blast. once east of Boise at night never below 90mph and never see them at all.

i get more warnings from the weight stations, that now have some kind of in cab system for the truckers telling them if they need to stop or not. and at construction zones. also saw a lot more of those "YOUR SPEED" boxes on this trip than before, but those digits are bouncing all over the place with multiple cars in a line all going roughly the same speed.
