Why I love government

Our county administrators decided to outlaw smoking in all businesses other than bars. Lets not even get into that, lets just look at the letter I am to distribute to my employees: (wouldn't it be easier to just whistle for the Stasi )

We apparently have the money for several full time employees and a new county department for this crap

I say fill out a stack of 'em complaining about the county's new Health Promotion Services division.

Have some fun with it.

I was just commenting today to my wife how America is becoming more of a communist country while China becomes more free. BTW, you can smoke in elevators in China and drink a beer while you walk down the street.

LOL, the fun is just begining there.
In the people's liberal republic of Kalifornia is is illegal to smoke in a bar too. in fact, the fine for smoking a cigarette in a bar is steeper than the fine for smoking pot in a bar, which isn't even illegal anymore (with the state, the feds still enforce the law) if you have a note from a quack doctor.

The ass kicker here is that I have no problem with a locality outlawing any act they desire, so long as it doesn't infringe on Constitutional rights and the people of the locality are the ones demanding the regulations...that's the "Great Experiment", that's America. This was a bunch of pointy headed tools that think they know what is best for us mixed with some gov job expansion juju. There is no way such a resolution would have passed in this community, no way.

Good intentions. Poor execution.

I've lived in CA for 5 years now and IMHO Michigan can't ban smoking fast enough. It would be the best thing to happen to MI residents, the most obese and smoke-addicted group of humans in the USA.

You think it's the government's responsibility to tell people that they can't smoke or over-eat? I always figured that was kind of a personal choice.
Oh that's right, you live in the bay area. never mind

I have never even thought of giving up smoking because of a ban on smoking somewhere. In fact, every time I think I may want to do it, I hear about another ban or cigarette tax hike and I immediately decide to keep smoking. In fact, in college, friends and I would light up every time we saw an anti-smoking billboard on the side of the road. BTW, people tend to gain more weight after quitting smoking. So pick your poison. Do you know someone, a single person, who has quit because of a gov't. regulation? I doubt it.

No, it's the government's job to protect my lungs from idiots around me who smoke. People who smoke have to be the dumbest in the world.

You're right. Lets bring back lead-based paint, take seat belts out of our cars, and pack our homes full of asbestos while we're at it.

They should ban smoking in public places as it is here in Florida. Nothing is worst than trying to eat and having to smell that nasty stench in the air!!!! It shocked me I went home to Virginia and they still allow smoking in restaurants!!!

They should ban racetracks, the noise and air pollution emitted so man children can play with their toys is pathetic. I shouldn't have to listen to or smell that while I'm trying to enjoy my Saturday.

They shouldn't ban it at all, resturants, bars, anywhere.

Let the market decide. If there is a market for no-smoking-allowed bars (and there probably is in any decent sized city/town), open one and see how much business you get. Same for a smoke free (or smoking allowed) airline, bus system, etc. In fact, I'm pretty sure that if you could get a few flights a day connecting the Big Airports (NY, LA, Atlanta, OHare, DFW) that allowed smoking, you'd have plenty of passengers. Sure, you'd have to pay your staff more (or maybe not...) but I'm sure you'd have a customer base....

I smoked for about 3 years, and quit becuase it started making me feel like crap.

That being said, every time I see one of those 'truth' commercials showing a bunch of trendy, hippy losers *****ing about tobacco, it makes me want to light up. They're the same trendy, dreadlocked hippy losers that believe 9/11 was an inside job.

At some point, I will probably start smoking just to distance myself from them. I will also drape my body in animal carcasses and find loopholes in the stupid tax codes. There. Eat it, tobacco nazis.

Who are you and what have you done to FastPat?

You've obviously just stepped out of a time capsule that was buried when real America existed. Since you're way behind on the times, let me bring you up to speed.

Don't go to NYC anymore. Trans fats are banned....for your own good, of course. Don't smoke in your car in ME with kids in the back. You'll be arrested. Don't spank your misbehaving kids in MA - they're about to ban that. Don't let your kid ride a bicycle without a helmet in Fairfax, VA - it's a crime. Big Brother is looking out for us all in the new Amerika, because he really does care and it's for our own good.

If smoking and obesity is such a problem, when will gov't ban fat people?

For all of you guys with a rabid desire to protect yourself against smokers, consider that back in the 50s, ads for smoking included affidavits from members of the medical profession. Whereas smoking may indeed have health risks, you are prime examples of being victims of a public ad campaign the aim of which was to change public opinion. If it works for smoking, then it can work for just about any behavior. Beware of what you ask for.

It’s a filthy nasty disgusting habit!!! You stick like hell when you come back to work after your little smoke break and by the way – you take too many smoke breaks!! No one wants to even be around you after you smoked!! You’re going die from it!!! You’re not going to get promoted because of it!! People look down on you for it!!! You’re a dying breed!!!

I hope you don’t smoke in your house because everything in it sticks of it!!!! So yes I still think they should ban it in indoor public areas!!!!
