If all you do is take all the freedoms and opportunities for granted that this country offers, and enjoy talking crap about this country and it's leaders at every opportunity, you are not a patriot. You are a commie traitor.

It sounds like you're saying that folks who care and want to make changes to improve America are patriots, and folks who do not support change but take freedoms and opportunities for granted are commie traitors. Are you aware that the former is a definition of "liberal" and the latter is a definition of "conservative?"

I think W's/USA's actions in the ME will historically be viewed as the moment when the ME started on a long path to Democracy and freedom. Yes, I truly believe this.

I also believe most of the domestic "frack ups" W has done will ultimately be forgotten.

Being a traditional conservative myself (not whatever is being called "Republican" today) I think Bush has failed on cleaning up (eliminating) the IRS, making government smaller, immigration policy and saving the puppies.

So, the most controversial and derided policy today will be the policy that will eventually frame W as a great president.

In all seriousness, I see what you are saying. I was thinking something similar while reading last night. Sort of like how Clinton is viewed as a great President for being able to ride the Internet boom wave so well.

But trying to be completely objective, I don't think Bush will ever be regarded as a great President. if anything, he will be noted for squandering the greatest opportunity for keeping the U.S. on top for the next century.

September 12 forward, Bush blew it. With the entire world, Iran included, behind us, he could have sent out an army of State Department diplomats and built an amazing coalition united in strength around the world. Instead he went against the entire world, blew the Treasury, and has diplomatically and economically crippled our country.

that's what he will be remembered for. and getting Moldavia in the Coalition of the Willing.

that's what he will be remembered for.

You could certainly be right, so time will tell.

The lens of history will see the "now" in ways that are difficult for us to presently understand.
