Gran Turismo Prologue Downloading AS I TYPE THIS

I am super duper excited- I had to set up a Japanese PS3 account to do this. I am so pumped right now!!! The screen shots are nothing short of amazing- I can't wait!!

YAY!!!

I will, of course, post my impressions once I get it.

28% done!

That was a bad idea- starting that at 12:30...

So yes, I didn't sleep very long.

The game is a demo only, if you guys didn't know it. The full version release date is uncertain, but I've heard as far off as Christmas 2008. You get something like 8 cars to choose from, and 1 track. The track is Suzuka, which I happen to like, so thats ok.

The graphics are pretty stunning, especially the replays and non-game scenes. The in-game scenes are close, but there's some 'jaggies' and motion issues. I assume that with this being a demo and all, its going to be worked out. The biggest improvement over GT4 is the 'in-cockpit' view. Its light years beyond the old- and each car gets its own actual dashboard. Pretty cool. The physics of the game are about the same. I need to find a translator though, because I want to turn off all of the traction assisting gizmos for the raw driving. The translator is needed becaue everything is in Japanese.

The AI is a bit of a disappointment. There are 16 cars in a race now instead of 8, although if you are anywhere in the bottom half you are seriously doing a bad job, so the addition of 8 more cars seems pointless. Unless you were in an endurance-type race, where the additional cars present more passing situations. I hope that in the full game, they account for damage. I purposely don't run into other cars, because I am trying to use this as practive for the day that I become a professional race-car driver. However, anytime you want you can dive into a corner and use the side of the car in front of you as a braking mechanism, pushing him off the line and moving ahead of him. This should be changed- your car should get messed up for this, or maybe you get black-flagged. Also, if you brake hard, the guy behind you should at least try to not hit you.

I only drove 2 cars so far- Nissan GT-R and the new STI. If the new STI drives in real life like it does on the game, its a seriously fun car. I like the dashboard too. It pushes a bit, but a throttle-lift changes the whole attitude, and very predictably too. I think the Audi R8 might be on there. I will check it out tonight, assuming I don't fall asleep at work and stay here.

So overall, no disappointments, especially for something free. With a few improvements to the AI and cleaning up the in-game video processing, GT5 will be very very very cool.

Any advice on a steering wheel/pedal setup? I need to get one, preferrably soon.

Forza2, you get more than 8 cars, one track and no need to press one for english. Try it you might like it, just about everyone that did does.

I would get an xbox 360 for that game alone. I love the 1st one, am hoping to be getting a 360 for Christmas this year, so fingers crossed! I can't wait to play Forza2!! It looks sooooooooooo cool!
