[QUOTE=daepp;3614854]As far as the price of the ticket, it is what it is. QUOTE]
....Until you get it reduced to save points on your insurance which I will attempt to do EVERY time :). The county I live in has "traffic classes" which cost about the same as a ticket + court costs (say $150) which avoids points, but the county I work in doesn't offer them. Therefore, that recent ticket that I had reduced to 5 over (this was 58 in a 45 on Interstate 40) for a ridiculous posted speed limit that almost everyone (including LEOs) ignore routinely, will probably cost me hundreds more over the next three years as an insurance hit. The LEO instructed me how to have it "reduced" as she gave me the ticket...she was very nice, but it was "revenue day" and she wasn't going to let it slide with a warning. You don't even see a judge or the LEO, you just go in, show your record, and they either reduce it, or sometimes make it a "non-moving violation" saving the points entirely (but they still get their $). Anyone who doesn't use the "system" to thier advantage just isn't being $mart imo...I will not willingly give the insurance "scam" industry one red cent that I can avoid. |

One of my goals in life is to be able to post the optional $50,000 bond with the DMV so I don't have to carry auto insurance. Of course I need a spare $50,000 first. . . And therein lies the problem. As with the ticket itself, if someone is doing something that's completely stupid, wrong, reckless and that ultimately matters, I'd say suck it up and take your lumps. Including the increased insurance rates. For a situation where you're getting plucked out of an endless string of cars doing speed "X" in a "Y" zone just because the cop doesn't like Porsches or whatever, I'd fight that and wouldn't feel the least bit guilty about doing so. |

It doesn't take $50,000 to get a $50,000 bond, FWIW.
KC911 - I could be wrong, but I don' think any of that applies in CA. |

Plus, I'm thinking of my fellow taxpayer - something you evidentially haven't done since upchucking yourself to the tax-less dunes of Vegas. Carry on, o bloated buffeteer. Carry on... SmileWavy |

Actually you're right - it looks like it's only a $35,000 surity bond or you can be self-insured (not sure what it takes to do that though). Here's the excerpt I just pulled up from the CA driver's handbook:
Financial Responsibility California’s Compulsory Financial Responsibility Law requires every driver and every owner of a motor vehicle to maintain financial responsibility (liability coverage) at all times. There are four forms of financial responsibility: * A motor vehicle liability insurance policy. * A deposit of $35,000 with DMV. * A surety bond for $35,000 obtained from a company licensed to do business in California. * A DMV issued self-insurance certificate. You must carry written evidence of financial responsibility whenever you drive and you must show it to a peace officer after a citation stop or accident. You may have to pay a fine or have your vehicle impounded if you don’t. Boy, wouldn't it be nice to tell the insurance company to go "F" themselves? I'd jump at that in a heartbeat. |
