Just make it all legal, case closed. So what is the harm? Oh, I smoked a weed today, that makes me bad. This whole "war on drugs" is a f*****g waste of time and effort, and a whole bunch of wasted money.

I'd be much more worried about a bunch of guys moving into one of the ever-growing (no pun) number of vacant/foreclosed properties around town and blowing the place to kingdom come with a meth lab.
Bet the number of those sorts of incidents skyrockets with the number of vacant properties in the coming months.

Meth labs are some seriously bad things to have around. So is meth.
The feds would definitely do better to move all focus to meth. Meth is some dirty bad stuff, and unlike pot the threat to society is entirely tangible. |

Sure, legalize it and let everyone smoke pot. That way we can have a country full of gumby-headed morons.
The dumbest people I know are pot heads. Dummer than dirt. They weren't always dumb, they smoked their way to that point. |

Let 'em toke themselves into idiocy. Fine enough. It makes the rest of us smarter by comparison.

I'd rather has some guy smoking a joint and giggling his way through 4 hours of You Tube videos rather than getting drunk and beating his spouse.
Legalize it. Frankly, it doesn't matter if its legal or not. Its cheap and readily available already. If the feds just has the common ****** sense to see that a HUGE sin tax could be placed on it.....

I am a fairly conservative old fart and still feel that pot and a majority of the drugs out there need to be de-criminalized.
Worst thing I ever did while smoking a doobie was spend all my money at the 7-11...

I can't remember how many 3:00AM trips to Winchels Donuts I made back in the day. Nobody there but me a couple friends and a steady flow of LAPD and CHP all night long.

I smoked pot every single day from second-semester freshmen year of college until October of senior year (the day I got a job offer). In truth, I smoked it mostly just before bed to fall asleep--I've always had trouble falling asleep.
I quit the day I got a job offer. It was no longer worth the risk. I haven't touched the stuff since. Two of my college roommates quit the same day. I smoke a cigar now once every 1-3 months. If pot were legal, I'd probably do it just as frequently. I realize that some people will over-indulge. Some people over-indulge on alcohol, caffeine--heck everything.

This is a bit off topic, but I guess what bothers me is the way that drugs all get lumped together.
I am part of the first generation of kids taught in school about the risks of drugs, starting in 6th grade. They called is "Me-ology Class". I remember it vividly. The problem with the way they taught it was how they portrayed marijuana in the same light as heroin. What scares me is that if you didn't do independent research as a kid, and you were a dumbass, lets say your friends get a joint and you guys smoke it. Now you are thinking "What's the big frickin deal with drugs? Grown-ups are lame and I can do anything I want". Then, you and your dumbass friends go get some meth or heroin, and now things are on a very different path for you. There was a SouthPark that covered the way that parents and school discuss drugs with kids, and I really liked it. It basically suggested honesty. As in a marijuana discussion with your kids going like this: Marijuana is, in fact, a drug. If you smoke marijuana, you aren't going to become a criminal or be supporting terrorists or anything like that. You can't OD and die from it. But it might make you turn into a pretty lame person. A lot of people try marijuana and really like it, but it makes them lazy and they stop trying to do other fun things. They end up surrounding themselves with a bunch of other potheads, and pot becomes the center of their lives. It can also hurt your schoolwork, and you WILL have problems with short-term memory. You'll find yourself in the company of lame-ass hippies too- they won't shower regularly, and they will have lame conspiracy theories on everything. It doesn't always work this way, but honestly take a look at the lives that a lot of potheads live. Something along those lines would be a lot more effective IMO than the scare-tactics. Then you can be honest about the harder drugs too, and it will be taken more seriously: Heroin will destroy a part of your soul, even if it doesn't take your life. For meth, just show them a video of how meth heads look before meth, and then 6 months later- that shoud take care of that. For cocaine, I'd just tell them what tooljobs all the cokeheads I've ever known have turned out to be. |
