Damn water pumpers. I have to say, though, if I had 190K to spend on a car it would not be that one. I would make my air/oil cooled 1979 930 the nicest/baddest ass 930 in existence.

I'd rather have a GT3... that being said, the GT2 does make a nice sound, doesn't it?

Good luck with that. I think the GT2 may take the GT3. I would have some serious test driving to do before I pulled the trigger.

I wouldn't turn it down, but I'd much sooner own a "real" Porsche - an air-cooled one.

OOP here we go... 911 guys claiming that only air-cooled Porsches are "real" Porsches despite the fact that the company hasn't made an air-cooled car in 10 years

(all in good fun, of course )

Heh, heh.

I haven't forgotten my roots - my first Porsche was a 944. I just figure the "not a real Porsche" reference would get some good banter going. Guess I was right.

They're all Porsches, although having now taken hits from both the air cooled and water cooled pipes, I prefer air-cooling.

Ultimately the heat goes to the air anyway, so why have an intermediate system (water) anyway? Just one more thing to leak. Think about it - what makes more sense:

1. Engine heat -> air
2. Engine heat -> water -> air

This car gets immense respect from me, but I do wonder how Porsche can justify a $190k price tag. The simple answer, of course, is that people are willing to pay it, but it would bother me knowing how much this 997 costs for what it is. Having said that, I am certain that Porsche didn't have school teachers in mind when they were marketing this car....

No. They had Ferrari owners in mind.

It's simply the zenith of the invention known as the automobile. But every time I say that, they come out with something better. (Porsche/Ferrari/etc..).

Old 911s were great cars, and in some ways more fun since their performance is so much lower and there is consequently more drama in driving them fast, but you cannot compare old air-cooled 911s that were really designed in 1962 to this car. You could pull a plug wire and put a load of bricks in the trunk and it would still just destroy any 930 ever made. 930s were slower than cow-slop compared to this.
