Hmmm... been awhile since civics, huh? You'll have to repeal the 14th amendment to make that change.

You can try to shoehorn a law through that "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" verbiage, but I think you'll find it very difficult.

Oh, and I'll say it again in case anyone is still listening. It's a red herring! --->

U.S.-born children cannot, however, sponsor their parents for immigration to the United States until reaching adulthood, and illegal immigrant parents do not gain any additional legal rights based solely on the fact that they have had a child born in the U.S.
The "anchor baby" argument is a meaningless distraction!! It makes no difference! Everyone go back to talking about how walls stop people from moving from one place to another all the time and taking great pains to illustrate the vast and significant differences between a legal Mexican immigrant and an illegal Mexican immigrant. Go on... I'm waiting...

I understand you guys in CA have been dealing with this for years. If you're happy with it, great! There are many Americans who see our culture as a major benefit of living in America and don't care for the illegal influence of the third world and their culture.

What we got here is, cognitive dissonance - having the law set up one way, and acting another way in terms of enforcing it. I think most Americans would disagree with overturning or doing away with the actual laws that make illegal immigration, well, ILLEGAL. But, as Wayne pointed out, so many in power profit financially or politically by its ongoing occurence, that the status quo seems unlikely to change.

The people need to speak up and be heard, and the laws enforced. Conceptually, sounds simple. As far as execution...well, I am not holding my breath.

As someone observed earlier with sarcasm, it is funny how the use of the military to defend the borders could possibly be construed as less appropriate than sitting in occupation in Iraq, a world away.

Uh, DanL, the "anchor baby" factor has little or nothing to do with these babies sponsoring their illegal parents for citizenship. The ICE has a stated policy of not deporting illegals who have US citizen children that would be left w/o parents if the parents were deported. Once illegal Mexicans drop a child here, (at US taxpayer expense), they are *home free* in terms of being able to stay here indefinitely and working for cash, tax-free, while sending $$ out of the US which will never return. I believe that the total figure is in the 10s of billions.

Most adult illegals could care less about US citizenship, they only care about being able to stay here indefinitely and their children's US citizenship. You live in LA and really don't understand this? Where on earth do you get your info, boy? Some policy paper from LaRaza or Berkley? Jeesus...
