Also, I have yet to hear a commercial on XM music channels. I am not sure what channels you guys listen to, but I don't hear them on 7,8,9,20,26,40,42,44,46,49,54,59 (the LED ZEP only station....woohooo!).

I guess it could be a geographic thing, but I've heard commercial advertising on all the channels you listed. I listen to pretty much the same lineup.

Love the ZEP channel tho.

But did she brag and guarantee everyone would pay. Stern on Sirius loses all of its "edginess". He's just an old guy that says the same crap every day.
A typical stern show:
I'm great.
Lesbians are hot.
I'm great.
Some other dull inane nothing comment.
I'm great....

Cycle repeats.

Anyway, not trying to get off thread topic. I really want there to be two choices...like I said competition is good.

I listen to the Adam Carolla podcasts pretty much everyday in full. Great stuff, though I am kinda getting tired of Bonaduce.

Ok, not to be argumentative, but you are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay off-base here, and clearly haven't listened to the show in the last few years. While Howard will always be sophmoric, if that's all you think it is, you've missed the whole point of the show. There's SO much more insight on current events than you'll find anywhere else, and so much more of a scope of humanity..everything in everyone's lives related to the show is there for all to see. Triumph, tragedy....it's literally the original reality show. Give it a week and see if you can ever listen to regular radio again.

As for Sirius, they don't have ads on the music channels, which is great.

/rant off.

I think the commercials on XM is overblown. I listen to Ethyl often. At times, they will have a Dj (Kane). He'll say maybe 30sec's of info of what was played or coming up (Nice if you working on your car and can't run over to see a song you don't know), and play more songs. Commercial radio easily has 5-10 minute breaks every few songs.

afterburn 549 12-06-2007 07:12 AM

Why is Stern so popular ?? I have tried hm a few minutes here and there.........can not stand him !! worthless word drool !! IMO

rennch 12-06-2007 07:16 AM

Like I said...give it a few days instead of a few minutes, then it's all over. Same goes for Sat. Radio in general...once you listen to it for a while, you can't listen to regular radio.

Agreed! If you listen to ANYONE in few minute increments, there are some times better than others.

BTW, Jay Thomas (Sirius Stars Channel) @ 3:00 eastern each afternoon is one of the best radio shows period. He is a very good entertainier.

The XM commercials run on the news/talk channels are about to drive me crazy, same ones over and over during every (frequent) break. Not to mention they are still billing me for a vehicle I sold in May, which they have record of deactivating. I even get a recorded message via/phone telling me to contact them. E mails are answered with form letter replies. Rant over!

Super_Dave_D 12-06-2007 09:14 AM

you should listen to Bubba The Love Sponge - he makes Howard sound tame.

Manson and Ned's songs and bits are the funniest things I have ever heard on the radio. Absolutely radio gold.

If I had 3 bills to spare I would order the new box set.

rennch 12-06-2007 10:13 AM

Yea...Bubba makes Howard look like a conservative show. He's not so much for me.

There are commercials on the talk stations (NFL, Howard, etc..) on Sirius, but they are relatively short, so I'm not too concerned about it.

vash 12-06-2007 10:43 AM

see? i dont like bubba.

Ha! not really. Martina Navratilova is not a hot lesbian.

What will we do without the:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1196977809.gif

Sounds bad but I've also been listening to the big 80's channel a lot lately. Another thing to consider though, doesn't Howard only have a couple years left in his contract? What will happen if he finally retires?

Three years left, however he's recently mentioned a possible extension. Guy must really like his job.

He's popular because he makes people laugh. Some people take Howard waaaaaay too seriously. He's just a goofy guy ( not a bash ) that takes bathroom humor and kicks it up a notch. I have listened for many, many years and I continue to do so because he makes me laugh. I don't like everything he does but I have the option to turn the dial. Love the music also. I find it interesting the merger proposal has taken sooooo long for the government to give it's approval. They are concerned it would cause a monopoly??? Let's see, if XM and Serius merge they will be one company out there that provides a pay per service....................and the competition is free.......................hmmmmmm:rolleyes:

afterburn 549 12-06-2007 02:23 PM

I have tried , for over 5 years ! To me his humor is cheap , ill attempt @ bathroom humor...but a lot of people transparently like him.... so there ya go, different strokes for different folks.............................

That's just it, many think it's all about "bathroom humor" and lesbians. He is one of the best interviewers ever-he can melt down Trump, Arnold, Martha, McCartney, incite Busey, and a host of others.

Not sure what "transparently like him" means, but you're right, different strokes...

89911 12-06-2007 03:29 PM

I guess I'll throw my opinion in the ring about Stern. I easily listened to him for 5 years. I though he was very funny. He also was the only show in town. About 3 years into listening a strange thing happened. The laughs disappeared. I guess you can only hear so much of the same schtick and eventually you'll get tired of farting contest and strippers. Hey, if you think he's funny, great. After listening to O and A and laughing at what they do, I'd never go back to his drivel. If he's on after they possible merge (and I would bet he won't because dumping him will open up a huge amount of cash flow) I'll start listening my iPod I guess.:(
