Sirius and XM, merge or die!

http://blogs.moneycentral.msn.com/topstocks/archive/2007/12/04/sirius-merger-or-chapter-11.aspx

I'm starting to get this feeling the next time I jump in my car and turn on my XM, I'll be hearing white noise.:(

I am surprised one of the big media firms hasn't bought one yet. Maybe they are waiting for one or both to go under and sweep in and buy the assets at a discount? ? ? ?

I just want them to finally merge so that I can listen to the baseball games. I'm still waiting. . . .

Howard reported today that there will be an announcement made on Friday concerning the merger. The 180 day review period ended yesterday. Even with FCC approval, the merger would still need to be sanctioned by the Department of Justice.

teenerted1,

First of all, it's ALWAYS baseball season in my head. Winter meetings right now. Besides, pitchers and catchers report on Feb. 13. Technically, only 10 weeks.

Shoot, Howard has enough to buy th whole deal.

I'm just sick of the commercials on the music channels. About to yank the damned thing and go full MP3.

That's only on a couple of channels on XM, and none on Sirus, unless your listening to talk radio.

I really do enjoy my XM. I have now got it like I want with nice installations in all vehicles, garage and shop. Where I simply take it out of a car and into the garage - everything is already pre wired and simple. It works great and I really like the programing. To my ears the sound quality is good too. I paid for a multi year plan where the price doesn't change. I have had XM for several years and never disappointed.

Conclusion: It will now go away. Happens every time. Boy howdy I really hope not though.

i cant believe there is so much protest to the merger. if they do merge, regular broadcast radio is dead. ironic how they are the major anti merger folks.

i leave my Sirius transmitter on, in the truck. my garage radio can pick up the frequency, and i get sat radio during wrench time. best ever.

I hear commercials on just about every music channel I listen to on XM. It really pisses me off to pay for music to hear commercials.

Naaah. That's just silly talk.

vash 12-05-2007 05:45 PM

maybe i should add. 'dead to me'

i still listen occasionally to regular radio. if i get all the channels, i aint looking back. you can have all the imus's, opuses, andys, adams, yada yadayada. i listen to adam corolla, and i am a huge fan. he is on AM radio in the bay area. dead man broadcasting.

Sorry, please move to the OT. I have at least 5 accounts with XM and like the other poster, I have it just like I want it with the set up. I listen to local radio for sport talk, but other then that, its all XM. I've got Itunes with 5000 songs in it, everyone I'm tired of listening to, except for certain occasions. If you like you music new, there is nothing to replace satellite. And for those of you that believe Stern, hasn't he been saying that everything is just great ever since he joined them. I wouldn't trust anything he says.

Excellent point.

I've not heard him say that. Sure, he is the first to toot his horn about how many ubscribers he's pulled in, but he's often commented that neither of the companies can continue in an arms race at the rate they're going. They need to join and market satellite radio as a media option.

Sirius has done a much better job on the non-music programming, IMO. And, to hear people talk, commercials seem to have infiltrated XM's music, where Sirius is truly commercial free on music.

I've not listened to broadcast radio in 3 years.

Since this is a 911 forum, my original stereo is AM/FM cassette only. I do not have this XM/Sirius system of which you speak. Radio reception is poor on a good day. So. It drives my wife nuts to ride in the car and have to listen to me blast King Crimson, Van Der Graff Generator, and other cassette tapes from the '80s that somehow are always at hand.

t951 12-05-2007 06:59 PM

Im an XM fan. I am what you would call an anti-Stern guy. It irritates me that they paid so much for this idiot, and now they complain about financial issues.

I don't want the merger, competition is good. Get rid of flops like Stern (he didn't bring all the subscribers he promised, not that he cares, he is still getting his $$). May the two competitors survive.

Also, I have yet to hear a commercial on XM music channels. I am not sure what channels you guys listen to, but I don't hear them on 7,8,9,20,26,40,42,44,46,49,54,59 (the LED ZEP only station....woohooo!).

I have had XM since 2002 I believe. I CANNOT listen to regular radio. Rental cars that don't have it are just painful. We have it in both our cars, and XM traffic in the wifes Acura MDX.

efhughes3 12-05-2007 07:30 PM

And Oprah was such a GOOD investment for XM. All of those women with no life that can watch her show everyday, and see her all over the media went out and signed up for XM right away...
