Somehow you're missing the point about gun control.

A alienated kid with a bit of crystal meth and a hard-on will probably not build an organic peroxide bomb.

But if there are automatic weapons in the basement - well he may just decide to use them.

Um, you're wrong.

As a formerly disaffected kid, I built tons of pipe bombs, drano bombs, I even made napalm. Getting my hands on a gun? Nope, never crossed my mind.

Did you think long and hard about that analogy lendaddy?

Are you even in the US Dottore?

If not (as I suspect), don't tell us how to run our internal affairs.

I am in San Francisco this very moment.

But I wasn't telling you anything. I was participating in a discussion.

BTW: your appeal to nationalism is as pathetic as it is intellectually bankrupt.

To quote Albert Einstein: Nationalism is an infantile disorder: the measels of mankind.

There is a world of difference between patriotism and nationalism. I've never seen nationalism in this country. Seen it in plenty of others.

I think it was de Gaulle who said something like "Nationalism is hating every other country more than your own. Patriotism is loving your own country more than any other."

So I'm not sure about your point here.

Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.

Can you guess who said that?

Here's a few others you might enjoy:

The love of one's country is a splendid thing. But why should love stop at the border? ~Pablo Casals

To me, it seems a dreadful indignity to have a soul controlled by geography. ~George Santayana

Patriotism is the willingness to kill and be killed for trivial reasons. ~Bertrand Russell

Patriotism is often an arbitrary veneration of real estate above principles. ~George Jean Nathan

Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it. ~George Bernard Shaw

To him in whom love dwells, the whole world is but one family. ~Buddha

You'll never have a quiet world till you knock the patriotism out of the human race. ~George Bernard Shaw?

If I knew something that would serve my country but would harm mankind, I would never reveal it; for I am a citizen of humanity first and by necessity, and a citizen of France second, and only by accident. ~Montesquieu

Patriotism is a kind of religion; it is the egg from which wars are hatched. ~Guy de Maupassant

Legion, just be careful, I suspect the Iraqi's would take a similar line....

Folks can't extend their "interests" outside of their borders unless they are prepared to take it as well as they give it....

I was a pretty normal kid, and we still screwed around all the time and made drano bombs, played with fireworks, made Molotov cocktails.

Never occured to me to 'get my hands' on gun, because I had a .22 from the time I was around 8 years old. I grew up in a small town in Michigan. Dad taught me how to handle a gun safely when I was very young. I knew they were not a toy. I used to walk miles in the winter to go hunting rabbits with my friends. (gawd I sounds like a grumpy old man....:) )

All these kids know about guns is what they have learned from video games. And of course, in video games, guns are pretty much for killing as many people as possible. Get killed yourself? No problem start the game over. Because its all just a game, right? Right?

Moscow on the bay, whooda guessed that? Yeah, you high minded socialists see nations as something below where you think. It must be great to be so superior.

The quote from Buddha was great. Couldn't you find any from your real hero's like Marx, Lenin, Castro or even Che?
