working on an old checkpoint firewall back in the 90's when I tried to do a firewall update I would very often get the error "Something odd has occurred."

It really sucked when you hit the "restart" button then everything froze!

Best,

Kurt

I'm puzzeled by the term "Unexpected error" which seems to imlpy that there are expected errors, or things that they know will go wrong.

I liked these error message haikus:

Three things are certain:
Death, taxes, and lost data.
Guess which has occurred.
-- David Dixon

A file that big?
It might be very useful.
But now it is gone.
-- David J. Liszewski

Generally for me, it would freeze with the button in the 'clicked down' state. Sounds like we've been on the same end of things.

slakjaw 12-11-2007 09:49 AM

is that error with the bomb from a mac?

rammstein 12-11-2007 09:51 AM

Yeah- its like a windows blue screen, except the message has a little bomb on it and is therefore cuter. Kind of like a turd rolled in cinnamon and sugar.

Yup. Then if you got one of these, with the very weird and ominous "chime", you were really hosed.

I once got:

"Error: This error should not have occurred."

id10t 12-11-2007 10:53 AM

Lots of great error messages in the Linux kernel source - just recursively grep for anything calling panic()

Ironically, when I clicked on this link, my Internet Explorer crashed.

Seriously.
