Ran into Bill Gates dad at Starbucks this morning.

Nice old gentleman. He lives over the hill from me. He drove a Mercedes SL for years, but recently changed to a CLS. I explained that he comes by my house all the time, and I noticed his new ride. He chuckled and said, "Yeah, l wanted something more conservative." I found out that its not the first one, because a tree limb fell on the first one and crushed it!

I was standing there in my work boots getting fuel for a long day rewiring a house, chatting with William Gates Sr. Such a strange world for this Detroit boy......

I saw him at the Foundation HQ about two yrs. ago. He was just moseying around, making a cup of coffee in the kitchen. If I meet his son up there (I go to the Found. all the time), I will ask about his 959.

I'm not sure where he 'lives'. He has a waterfront home in Laurelhurst, and his daughter does as well. His daughter lives in her house. His house is on a private road, so I've never seen his home. I see him driving around enough that I know he lives here part of the time.

I know the feeling. My neighbor has his very nice helicopter come fetch him. Every once in a while one of his many vintage WW2 planes does a high speed pass along the shoreline. I've got to admit, I like it. The spectacle of big wealth can be a good thing.
