For Womb to the Tomb Libs
This is TOO true to be very funny. The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about whether you want the 'politicians' spending YOUR tax money.
A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into some perspective inone of its releases. A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959. B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive. C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age. D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet. E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it. While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans. It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division. Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number, what does it mean? A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans(every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528. B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans, your home gets $1,329,787. C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012. Washington, D.C.. HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators broken?? Tax his land, Tax his wage, Tax his bed in which he lays. Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes is the rule. Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat. Tax his ties, Tax his shirts, Tax his work, Tax his dirt. Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he tries to think. Tax his booze, Tax his beers, If he cries, Tax his tears. Tax his bills, Tax his gas, Tax his notes, Tax his cash. Tax him good and let him know That after taxes, he has no dough. If he hollers, Tax him more, Tax him until he's good and sore. Tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in which he lays. Put these words upon his tomb, 'Taxes drove me to my doom!' And when he's gone, We won't relax, We'll still be after the inheritance TAX!! Accounts Receivable Tax Building Permit Tax CDL License Tax Cigarette Tax Corporate Income Tax Dog License Tax Federal Income Tax Federal Unemployment Tax (FUTA) Fishing License Tax Food License Tax Fuel Perm it Tax Gasoline Tax Hunting License Tax Inheritance Tax Inventory Tax IRS Interest Charges (tax on top of tax), IRS Penalties (tax on top of tax), Liquor Tax, Luxury Tax, Marriage License Tax, Medicare Tax, Pro! perty T ax, Real Estate Tax, Service charge taxes, Social Security Tax, Road Usage Tax (Truckers), Sales Taxes, Recreational Vehicle Tax, School Tax, State Income Tax, State Unemployment Tax (SUTA), Telephone Federal Excise Tax, Telephone Federal Universal Service Fe e Tax, Telephone Federal, State and Local Su rcharge Tax, Telephone Minimum Usage Su rcharge Tax, Telephone Recurring and Non-recurring Charges Tax, Telephone Stateand Local Tax, Telephone Usage Charge Tax, Utility Tax, Vehicle License Registration Tax, Vehicle Sales Tax, Watercraft Registration Tax, Well Permit Tax, Workers Compensation Tax. STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY? Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids. What happened? Can you spell 'politicians!' And I still have to 'press 1'for English. I hope this goes around THE USA at least 100 times What the heck happened?????

interesting?
Most people have no clue or reference to the "Billion"; in fact many can't relate to the actual worth of even a "Million". Ah the dream...... to become a millionaire. ha, ha. Now the houses are worth that alone? Anyway, I use to work with a company that had revenues in the Billions. A million dollars in crisp clean $100 Bills stacks about 4" high. A billion dollars stacks over 33 stories high. |

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959. (reference: a million seconds ago it was 11.6 days ago)
B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive. (ref: a million minutes ago it was less than a year) C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age. (ref: million hrs was just over a year ago) D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet. (ref: million days is 2740 yrs) E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it. (ref: just plain 'ol stupid) |

Don't get me wrong, I love advertising firms and reactionary froth as much as the next guy, but according to my calculations
1 billion days is 2.7 million years, a long time after the age of the dinosaurs (T. Rex walked on two feet) and 1 billion seconds ago was 1975 and 1 billion hours ago was 104 A.D. btw I like pressing "1" for English. It's not that much trouble, really! Usually it's at the upper left hand corner of the keypad. I love having choices! A good business model would be "English only" - someone should run with that. Provide the same services and products, but make it easy on the old folks (who do have money, you know!) by putting everything in English only. |

Taxation without representation is unconstitutional. Where are the lawyers?

Yeah, you could be right?
Maybe it was $1,000 bills? It was a few years ago, but the company would always use these comparisons to educate us. Can't say as I ever actually measured it? The most cash I've ever had in my hands was about $150K ![]() A million seconds is 11.6 days and a billion seconds is over 31 years. It's a big difference anywho? |

I've had about $350k in cash in my hands. I worked at a bank in high school and once moved a cash shipment from where the armored car service dropped it off to the vault. The most lose cash I ever had in my hands was bout $12k. I worked one summer at the branch in Cicero and at that branch it is all cash deposits, all day long, and I it was very busy and I got way over my drawer limit.

Well the math may be wrong but the point is valid.
25 freaking billion to rebuild NO? Let it sink. We could uproot the entire French Quarter and move it to Kansas for a lot less. Of course then they would whine it isn't tornado proof. |

All them their taxes...
It might be interesting to place a party label next to each and every one of them to see just who authorized them, along with the conditions that spawned the need.

I know that in my lifetime i'll be lucky to earn a total of one million dollars through wages. I also realize that if i could repeat the whole process of life 1000 times i could earn one billion dollars. What's interesting, and i'm not sure how this happened, is how capitalism actually allows a rare bunch to earn the amount of money earned by 1000 engineers in a lifetime.

My favorite politician adage is "A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon you're talking real money."
These number mean nothing to the vast majority of people. Most people think Earth is a unique place in the universe and have no concept of how tiny and insignificant we really are. More stars in the sky than grains of sand on the Earth. Our galaxy is 100,000 light years across and it's just one of many billions.

The one ABSOLUTE generality in the universe. Democrats raise taxes! If you can provide some information to the contrary, I'm sure I/We'll find it humorous.
