Never hustle a hustler
A cut and paste from a billiards site...since it involves driving fast over public roads, thought people would enjoy the read here:
On a road trip in the early 70s, three road players are travelling together. As the pickings on the road occasionally got slim, they started betting with one another. On the way into town, a sign says they are 21 miles away. They are in a very large car, and the driver says I bet I can make it in 15 mins. The other two bet him for $100 each. They make it in 17 mins. The driver paid up, but continued to hold that he knew his car could make it. He said in the morning, fresh and with fresh gas, he could do it in 15 mins. After just seeing that he pushed the car to all it had, they agreed. This time betting $1000 each. They made the driver give them the keys to the car so he couldn't have anything done to it. That night the driver snuck out, bought a shovel, and took a cab to the sign. He dug it up and moved it about 3 1/2 miles closer to town. The next day, they drove out until they saw the sign. The driver made it into town easily clearing the 15 minute mark.
