BMW 5 series versus the rest

Sorry to bring this up on a Porsche list, but it is time for us to finally buy a car for "touring" We've been borrowing the kids cars when they were away at school, but now we need to give them back and we need a 4 door sedan.

Looked at a 528i, liked it a fair bit. Thought the European delivery was pretty good, but the price is around $60k. US pricing is much lower, but they will not service the car, honour the warranty or included maintenance if the car is bought in the US. Apparently if a US dealer gets caught selling to a Canadian, their licence to sell BMW's gets pulled after one warning.

So, it is a nice car, but I can buy a friggin' Honda Accord for $35k with all the trimmings, and if I get tired of it just sell it and move on. VW Passat's with the 2 litre turbo's are around $38k, I can buy a Lexus G35 Sedan (also rwd, manual) for around $50k.

I am beginning to think that a nice boring, cheap Honda is a great transportation appliance. If I want a rush, I'll hop in the 911 and get a really good drive!

Anyone want to talk me off of this ledge?

Dennis

Go drive a Toyota Camary with the V6. You will be quite suprised. 273HP give it quite the punch. It is a 5 series BWW? Nope. But its also half the price.

I think the Accord looks good. They did a good job with the (much needed) upgrade.

What about a certified used car? The current 5 series has been on the market for a few years now.

i love my lexus gs350.
I looked at the bmw550 and the lexus.
I do believe the lexus is the better car if you already have a sporty car to drive when you want loud and fast.
Also, I would never compare any of those front wheel drive cars to the lexus or bimmer

My current car is an Accord (ok, my wife's car, but who's checking?).

I feel nothing good or bad when I drive it. Its emotionless. The one good emotion about the car is 2 years have gone by without a single hiccup. Nada. I replaced the wipers and changed oil. They are screwed together well. You kind of grow to like the car because it never pisses you off.

I have the I4. The V6s are pretty damn quick in a straight line- one of those might add some grins to the mix.
