A New Toy for Gogar

No, it's not a gun. Sorry, you guys.

Well, I found this thing on 'the bay' that I thought would be cool to have, but I missed the end of the auction. No bids. I promptly emailed the guy and chatted him up for a while, came to an agreement, and IT'S MINE.

Problem was, this nice fellow was in Sandy, Utah, 500 miles from my home, and the item in question weighs 425 POUNDS.

Enter "Thrifty Rent-a-Car".

Tuesday morning as Thrifty opened their doors at 8 am, I was waiting outside. Grabbed the ol' Dodge Caravan and I was off!

Southern and Central Utah with a dusting of snow is a really pretty sight.

So, I made a mad 8-hour dash to Sandy/Provo, met this nice fellow (who teaches music classes at BYU), tossed said item in the van and promptly TURNED RIGHT BACK AROUND and drove home. Yee Ha!

Hmmm...a mystery. This must be something pretty cool (and heavy) for you to rent a minivan to go get it...

See, that's what happens when you have all those teeny little cars and bikes. If you had a big-ass Harley like me, anything that weighs a mere 450 pounds would fit on the back. Not that mine does, but many Harley b!tches weigh at least that much...

And, 15.5 hours later, there it was:

This is a Early-mid 60's Hammond B3 organ.
Well, actually it's a Hammond A-100 in a B-2 cabinet. Functionally and aesthetically the exact same thing.

I guess to put it in Porsche terms, It's like having an SC coupe tub with a 3.6 transplant. FUN STUFF.

Came with Organ Dollies as well, which is great. I need to get a case for it, though. They never last banging around in the back of a semi without a case.

Even though I'm quite happy, I don't recommend driving 1000 miles in one day. I think I'll be pretty worthless today. Saved myself $300-400 in shipping costs, though.

You should come on over, Kurt!

My memories of Columbia are flush with Hot Thai food, good coffee, and fantastic-looking corn-fed college girls.

All of that is still there! If I get a chance I'll drive up in the 911. Any idea of when you will be in town?

Thanks, Kevin.

I'm going to make a new thread maybe at the end of the week and do a thing similar to what I did last year. This year's winter tour is almost twice as many dates, and some new cities, so it should be fun. I'm hoping to take a bunch more pictures of a bunch more Pelicans and their cars.

Dang! I guess it before scrolling down! One of the keyboardists I play with has a nice B3 and one that was "cut down" by some outfit in Florida. It's in a nice cabinet with "fold up" legs that swing out from the bottom and are secured by 2 huge knurled knobs on each side. It can actually be handled quite easily. Are you going to keep this one "as is" or convert to a Porta-B?
