this is strange .can connect to pelican but know where else

any computer or internet specialists out there?
i came home from shopping and went to check my email but could not connect.
i thought my wireless was down again but I can connect to the pelican site and search around with no issues.

I can't connect to google or any other shortcut i have .
i can't connect to my outlook account .allways get the same message.
page cannot be displayed, cannot find server. no matter where I try it's the same message.

this has never happened before and I can't figure out why the bird site is the only one it will connect to.
does that make sence to anyone?
I have dialup as backup but we know what thats like . on dialup i can connect to everywhere no problem other than being dialup slow.

stumped . any ideas?

Try this:
Click Start > Run.
Enter ipconfig /flushdns in the Open: textbox.
Hit OK.

Huh, worked for me. What OS?

lonewolf 12-22-2007 07:02 PM

XP
When on dialup everything is fine . unfortunately someone has sent me some pics in an email and by seeing how slow it's dowloading they are probably big and will take hours to download on dialup so checking email is out for now .

If it's XP, the file has to be there. Copy this:
ipconfig /flushdns

Paste it into the "Run" box and hit OK. There's no way, that ipconfig is not on your system.

same thing " cannot find file (or one of it's componets) make sure the path and file name are correct

slodave 12-22-2007 07:35 PM

OK,

In the run box, type "cmd" and hit OK. A black box should appear. In that box, type ipconfig, hit enter and report back.

Have you tried a reboot?

lonewolf 12-22-2007 07:51 PM

oh ya , rebooted 3 times and ran every repair program I have before posting here

slodave 12-22-2007 07:54 PM

What are you running for a firewall? Can you turn it off for 5 minutes and see if that fixes things?

lonewolf 12-22-2007 07:58 PM

no firewall

I don't understand why i can connect here and nowhere else when on wireless.
If i switch off and go dialup everything is fine but on wireless pelican is the only site i can connect to .

slodave 12-22-2007 08:01 PM

Have you tried to unplug the wireless router, let it sit for about 5 minutes, then plug back in (to wall)?

Dave

lonewolf 12-22-2007 08:06 PM

I did unplug it ,not for 5 min ,maybe 1.
but is it the wireless?,my reciever outside is fully lit up and I can connect here.

slodave 12-22-2007 08:16 PM

Can't say. Just trying to relay to you, the things I'd do if I we're there.

I'd still try and unplug your DSL/Cable modem and any other router/wiress AP for about 5 mins. If it is a cable modem, plug that in first, then any other router/AP.

Hey guys,
This may be a pre-existing problem from a update or corrupt file???

Copy and paste the text below in your run box and click ok

%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd

do you get the same error?

lonewolf 12-22-2007 08:32 PM

slodave 12-22-2007 08:36 PM

Right click on "My Computer", select "Manage". Double click on "Event Viewer", select "System". Any errors?
