Brainstorming help needed: "Jack of all trades, master of nothing" needs flexible job

Here's the Reader's Digest version: I have a degree in management and sold a successful business 9 years ago. My wife travels, so when our daughter was born I became a stay at home dad.

Now our daughter is 7, and my wife still travels. I'm looking for some way to earn decent income (let's say >$50K/yr.), where I can be around after school when our daughter gets home. With my wife gone so much we're trying to avoid the aftercare program at school if at all possible. As a former business owner I have good generalist skills, but am having trouble translating that into real money from home or with flexible hours. I've had some success doing Quickbooks training/bookkeeping and may go that route, but would like to hear other suggestion.

male prostitute for soccer moms

See if you can find some small medical practices around that you could provide acct/etc for. Often they need to farm that work out.

I know a lot of retired Naval officers (I'm almost there myself) that have done well investing who also have wifes that work. They want flexible hours, stress free...they all have done well in their first careers and have no ego invested in the next stage of their lives. They also have excellent retirements and health care.

One works at the local Lowes. The pay is good and his hours are exactly as the ones you want. He loves the job.

Another is a car nut who works at an independent foreign auto repair shop. They allow him all the flexibility he needs...there is evidentially a real shortage of reliable, mature mechs who know what they are doing.

The are a lot of defense contractor in my area that support less than full time employees with certain skills: proposal reviews, contracting experience, etc. Check out the local defense contracting firms that provide support to the military. A very good friend of mine works 30 hours a week doing this.

Most of the rest work in areas that would not fit your daily schedule. All the best.

If your into manual labor I would start a BS company like:

Mobile window tinting
Mobile car detailing
Roof pressure washing

As you know, any corporate management job is full time + 1.

Lee, I get emails everyday from a place called M.A.R.S. for jobs in Phoenix and Vegas. They do reconditioning on traded in cars for dealers, I think some paintless dent removal, but mostly detailing. $60k base plus commission/bonus. Last summer I had to get some PDR work done on my wife's Mini and I was soooo dying of curiosity as to how they do it. So I met the guy at the local Target parking lot and watched him do the whole thing. I paid him $120 for 30 min. of work and that was discounted because of a connection. Seems to me someone could learn that trade pretty quickly working for someone else and either do a lot of side jobs under the table or strike out on his own after a year or so. I'm considering it.

M.A.R.S.

I talked with the owner about 7 years ago. They are legitimate. Not my thing, but they have their company set up well IMHO.

I paid a guy $500 to roto-root some clogged pipes in my house. Paid the same amount when my wife wanted the HVAC vents vacuumed out. I think there's good part time money out there in those kinds of things.

How about buying a used carpet cleaning van?

My dad is getting close to retirement years and wanted to set himself up for the same situation. He now contracts out his services as a controller or accountant- depending on the size of the company and what their needs are. He also became a certified fraud examiner to add a little value to his offerings, so he's been doing some forensic accounting. He seems to have plenty of work and has even turned some away.

Plenty of small companies out there that need part time help. Get your resume in front of some local recruiting companies and they will help you cast your net.

Good luck and let us know how it goes...

My child is only 4, but this thread could pretty much be about me.

My 'job' involves taking my kid to her snobby preschool, and hanging out with the trophy wive. Did I mention I'm not looking for work?
