I HATE Speed TV
A full day of damn trucks!! Christmas day, lots of people home and nothing but Monster Trucks. *******s.
/rant off |
Just a question...can't you opt out of "speed", thus lowering your monthly cable bill?
|
Nope.
I just hate their programming with a passion. |
That's funny...we're on comcast cable here. I decided to not pay extra for the package that contained "speed"... why? All the complaints here that the channel had become all nascar all the time convinced me not to...If I wanted "speed", I'd have to pony up more than I currently pay.
|
Sure, "we" don't like the programming 80% of the time.
What scares me is that so many people really enjoy monster jam, tuner this and NOPI that, NASCAR and uggghhh!!!, those boring auctions. I like Victory by Design, Monterey Historics, ALMS, 24hours of LeMans, SCCA runoffs. Road courses are where it's at. KT |
It really does suck. Non HD channel with lousy programing. I'm about to remove it from my "favorites" on my remote. Also, the volume on that channel is way above all the other channels. I'll be watching a mostly talk movie and switch between channels to announcers or monster trucks so loud my wife is begging me to turn it down.

The show "Pinks" is about as low class as all their other crap....I can't cancel it w/o dropping a lot of other Dish channels, but I rarely watch Speed anymore....
|
Thing is, to watch good tv a few sunday mornings a year we have to put up with the Monster trucks once in a while. I wont check Speed until the season starts.
|
"Unique Whips":( Let me take this dash out of the Lamborghini and spray paint it out back with some yellow Krylon paint. Eeeechhh.
|
I have to pay extra for the package that has Speed on it. Only time I watch Speed is when Formula One is showing, otherwise its something else.
Idiots there went to the dark side years ago, preferring CrashCar and sacrificing their soul for money over real racing. It used to be a very good channel... |

It just shows you the intellectual level of most of America. I find television programming to be a good litmus test of what the "average Joe" out there is really like.
And it disturbs me. |
I agree, I don't like everything on speed, but I like enough (the same shows as Trekkor) to keep paying the small extra charge for it. As far as HDTV, that's coming in 2008. It's not big on my list since I don't have an HDTV set anyhow.

I don't own an off-road truck, but I really enjoyed TRUCKS when it had Stacy as the host. I pick up a lot of tips about fabrication from shows like that.
Unfortunately, the new putzes that host the show seem more interested in hawking products than teaching "how-to" skills. Oh... and they suck. I think part of what happened was that before, Trucks was both hot-rod and off-road. Now Speed has Trucks as a hot-rod truck show, and they also have a new show called Xtreme 4x4 that covers the off road. I still catch an episode of X-4x4 once in a while - again, because I like watching the fab work that goes into those rigs. Stacy now resides on "GearzTV" and still does fab and how-to. |
Just think about what the monster truck guys say about the loop-de-loop guys...
Just think about what the motorcycle guys say about the GT guys... Or what the NASCAR guys--nevermind, they get a good 50% of the programming. |
I'm grateful they still broadcast F1, but agree that it had declined a lot since it was "Speedvision" several years ago.
|
Don't try posting on Speed's board about how lousy the shows are. I slammed all the Nascar junk and they deleted my posts. Talk about censorship!
|
I really dislike Speed too. Seems to me they are missing the boat almost entirely. Sure, a lot of people like NASCAR or monster trucks - I'm NOT one of them, but fine.
Why not have a weekly (or more) series of program dedicated to: The Porsche 911, The Corvette, The Mustang, British Sports Cars, Ferrari, Italian Legends, etc. "We" - car guys know that we would be looking forward to these shows. There is plenty of information as this site alone attests. Plus there are always new parts suppliers and repair facilities that would need the advertising of having a TV crew come in an showcase their parts or their work. I can think of LOTS of different shows that could be done but the guys at Speed (apparently) aren't really car guys...at least not like we are. I appreciate all kinds of cars, I just don't happen to want to own all kinds of cars. I could watch a show about hybrids and be interested. I can appreciate the planning, work and money that goes into a show quality lo rider or monster truck, I just dont want to own one but I might watch a show about them too. |
I have read some of the responses that Speed gives to their programming. They quote statistics about the diversity of their programming ad nauseum. They claim they cover all kinds of racing, with various percentages of program coverage for the different types. Problem is that it's never on when I can watch! No, I don't want a Tivo thank you.
Obviously, there is opportunity here for another channel without Nascar, Monster Truck & Unique Whips. Would it not be profitable to show some of the things that we like? Hell, just rerunning Top Gear would get ratings. Hearing Clarkson say Cou-PAY makes me laugh. |
