While it is a shock, I can't say I'm surprised. In fact, I'm surprised Musharraf has managed to stay alive and in office this long. Had Bhutto eventually ended up in the top job, I doubt she'd make it more than a year before she ended up dead. Pakistan tends to not have peaceful power transfers or retirements for their leaders.

Is our gov't still of the mindset that we're not particularly interested in finding/killing OBL?

Yep - something like this was what started WW1.... From Wiki Answers..... "When WWI Started and Ended Simply put, World War One began in the year 1914 and officially ended in 1919, when all the treaties had been signed, although fighting had ceased on November 11th 1918. The initial catalyst was in June 1914: the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, Serbia. The Austro-Hungarian empire wanted to extradite the killer, but Serbia refused. Once the spark of the Archduke's assassination had lit the fuse, war became virtually inevitable due to the alliance system that the major powers had set up ?- they literally tumbled into war. Austria mobilized, Serbia mobilized, in response to Austrian mobilization against Serbia, Russia mobilized, in response to Russian mobilization against Austria, Germany mobilized and in response to German mobilization both Britain and France mobilized. In the summer of 1914 the war began to rage in both the east and the west. It would not end until November 1918. "

I think you fundamentally misunderstand the problem. Up until this point, Pakistan was not particularly interested in letting us find/kill OBL. This assassination may change their minds...

Honestly, there could be a silver lining in this. If Musharraf ends up like Bhutto and the whole place is really a lost cause, I think it might be easier for us to find UBL. Up to now we've tolerated Pakistans' unwillingness to let us go in there to get him because Musharraf's being alive and on our side was more important than getting UBL's head on a pike (as much as we'd all like that, he's been effectively defanged). That may change now.

This is bad, very bad. You notice that nobody is taking credit for this. Usually they are on the phone talking to Al Jazeera before the bodies stop smoking. Who benefits from this? Not Musharaf, not the progressives(tough to elect a martyr) Smells like islamonutjobo to me, so it was probably the CIA
![]() No, that was us, though the Brits left it sort of fuched up. We helped them kick the Russkies out then left a vacuum, like the left wants us to do in Iraq You have not shown any evidence that I have seen that this is true.

What an insane part of the world!! Everyone had hoped she would restore the government, but many felt she was corrupt and not worthy. Obviously the opposition finally got to her. She was shot in the neck and chest according to reports. Then another twenty were taken out by the suicide bomber. No idea on the exact number of assassins, but you knew they were going to get to her sooner or later. A way of life in that part of the world. Hell has to be getting crowded these days! This should dominate the national news channels for the week.

wanna bet a united states nuke sub is on alert in the area! or steaming to area! since OBL is still on our most wanted list and the fact subs can and have launched tomahawk miss-kills at him and his amigos, i would bet one is already stationed there.
majority of peoples dont like musharraf. most like bhutto. both like all the goodies the u.s. sends. majority of peoples dont like musharraf being puppet or perceived as puppet of the u.s.. this nuke thang aint good for this planet. muslim nukes vs. christian nukes vs. jewish nukes. nobody wins and im a gonna be pissed at whomever lights one off first! REALLY REALLY REALLY PISSED OFF! |

BTW, that $10 billion we sent Pakistan to catch OBL, most of that has gone into weaponization and preparation for war with India. Your tax dollars hard at work.
