Must have guitar book?

Ok guitar guys. I am looking to buy a good guitar book that will take me from beginner into advanced beginner, lol. I know about 15 chords or so and am getting to where I can switch between them at a reasonable (but not fast) speed. I have my Fender Strat for electric and just bought an Epiphone Masterbuilt acoustic. I am finding myself playing the acoustic more and more, I just love the way the chord changes sound...so cool.

Anyhow, I have tab books for James Taylor, Eagles, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton and The Acoustic Guitar Sampler. I also have "Guitar for Dummies". All the tab books are pretty tough for me, I am working on Dust in the Wind and can play through the intro and the first verse ok, fingerstyle.

Anyhow, I have a little Christmas money and was wondering if there was a "must have" guitar book out there I should look at.

Also, the Epiphone I bought has all solid wood construction and sounds really great, but I'm not super crazy about the bridge pins. They are white plastic. Does changing to bone or something else really make a tone difference? Is it worth the money or just for looks?

Modern Guitar Chord Technique, by George M. Smith. Mel Bay Publications MB95422 $9.95 may be out of print.

The late George M. Smith was a well-known guitarist that played on many Hollywood Soundtracks from the 30s-60s.

As a self-taught guitarist, Ive studied out of many many books and magazines. By far, this book is the best chordal book available. If you study through this book, you will learn the entire fretboard and will learn nearly all Modern Chord progressions that have been used in thousands of songs and still are today. This book took me from being a reasonably good guitarist to one that is on the professional level. I think that highly of it.
