2007 was not a Good Year

I know 2007 was a pretty rough year, not only for me, but a few other members too. I lost many people who were close to me (3 in June alone) only one was over 70, then other Problems that came up through the year has just about taken its toll on me, stressed to the max. I for one am glad that it is over and hope 2008 is much better.

Byron, I think 08 will be fantastic. Sucks that 07 was rough for you but the upside is that you have a great car, a way cool job and access to some serious tail. I don't know brotha but save for the loss of some tight buds, you have some good shyt go'n on. Happy New Year. I hope we get a chance to tip a few...

Was on top of the world....then '07 proved to be especially rough for me as well. This year is poised to be better in some respects.

Good luck to all.

I was discussing this with the wife yesterday.

2007 was the worst year of my life and I expect '08 to be considerably worse and I'm not joking even a little bit.

Given that, I know that I live a charmed existence on a global scale and I'm not really down about it. I have the important things in spades.

2009 should be my year.

Reminds me of this:

Peter Gibbons: So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.
Dr. Swanson: What about today? Is today the worst day of your life?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Dr. Swanson: Wow, that's messed up.

Things did not go to well for most of 07. Now things seem to be trending upwards at last and I am nervous.

Losing family members, a good friend passing away, loss of a pet, being fired, wrecking your car, a divorce, stock market or housing tanks, discovering a health issue ...wow, the 'downs' can seem endless.

But...

You have electricity, heat/air conditioning, you have potable water, you have access to unlimited consumables (food, toilet paper, clothing, medicine, ...), you can put your garbage at the curb and it is picked up, you have resources available (churches, hospitals, Red Cross...)

You don't have to...

Walk down to a community well and bring water back in buckets.
Live in a hut with a dirt floor.
Cook over an open fire.
Brush back the flies ...competing with your limited food supply.
Live under a dictator that cares only about staying in power.

I could go on, but ...to what point.

Ever consider (no matter how bad a year YOU had) how much of the worlds population would exchange places with YOU...in a heartbeat?

Be very thankful ...it could have been much worse!

Wow, thanks guys. I am in the process of going through the Worst.Year.Ever., and this thread really helps. To paraphrase Charlie Brown, the only thing that could cheer me up is seeing other people more depressed.

I realize now how lucky I have been to have gone almost a half century without getting piled on like I did this year and I know I have it better than most; knowing it doesn't take away the sting.

Good luck to all of us.

No matter how much wealth or how many amenities, if one is not content with themselves, it will be a very bad year.

I'm with you on a lousy 2007. For me started last January with losing job, only able to work part time for 6 months, get serious illness that lands me in the hospital. 2008 can only be better!

Well, I can always earn more money, been up, been down, and yes, I do have cool cars, & bikes & other stuff, but they are just that, stuff, they can be replaced, they may not be the same, but can be duplicated. My job, yes,, I get to do lots of cool stuff and do get to meet & play with some fine & fun tail, but after 22 years in the biz, all the "bar chicks" get old too. People who are important to you can't be replaced, no amount of money can do that, no car can take their places, true love can't be found in a bar and the emptiness of losing that can't be made up for by anything.
I can't begin to know how bad Bab feels and what he has gone through with his loss.
I am very fortunate that our business has had a very good year, my hobby has been doing very well in supporting itself, yet the losses of people close to me, my declining health, and a few other major things that have been going on in my life make it hard to see a positive light. Feeling empty is not a good thing and I don't know what I can do to fix it.

become a liberal Byron. We sit around and blow smoke up each other's skirts all the time...makes you feel great

here's to a better '08. A cabbie almost ran me and my son off the road new years eve night. That would have been a festive end to the year. But the Audi is pretty quick and myriad tracks days came in handy while I was sideways on the 110.

I'm with Wayne...no looking back!

Byron, we lost one of the good ones down here a few days ago; an old Porsche Club friend of mine and dear friend to lots of others - 65 years young and fit as a fiddle; would put a lot of people I know (me included) much younger than him to shame. He suffered a minor stroke followed by a massive one and now he's gone...

It's been a rather crappy year here too . Deaths in the family (most sadly my Mum) and among our friends, too many issues on the work front to deal with hit all at once, our 15yo son has decided that the rules of our house are not for him and he has been on the party trail living on other people's couches for the last 5 weeks - doesn't seem to give a damn about much except himself...I ruptured a disc in my lower back right when we started moving the workshop and I discovered what excruciating agony a back injury can be (this from a girl who's had 3 kids the "natural way" and also almost severed a finger among other silly injuries)...yep it's been a rough one and I understand that "empty feeling".

HOWEVER you and I are still here - live life for each day and like it may be your last; live it to the fullest for I now firmly believe we are here for a good time, not a long time. I find I now get more pleasures from the simplest of things - complexities are just "clutter". I don't need the bling; I just need to go to bed each night knowing I have "done good" for the day in some small way.

SO...kiss that badass 2007 goodbye; indulge yourself your feelings for a while and then embrace 2008 with renewed vigour and gusto; it might just be a good, better, or best year if you give it a chance .

Happy 2008 everyone !

Cheers,

Lisa
