New year holds no magic this time

A difficult year is ending for me. I am happy to see it go, but this year there is no one to share the Holiday with. I am planning a quiet, introspective evening and early to bed.

To all of you, who have helped me maintain my "sanity" and balance over the past 7 months, my gratitude and a Happy New Year to you all.

Happy New Year Bob.

Like you, I plan on a low-key evening. I've never really understood New Year's as an excuse to go out, whoop it up or get rip-roaring drunk. It's really just means buying a new calendar to me - not much else. I'm still going to be the same person on Jan 1 as I was on Dec. 31.

It's really kind of a "much-ado-about-nothing" holiday, IMHO. I'll probably go to sleep early as well.

Better times are ahead in 08 Bob. I can only imagine what Thanksgiving, Christmas and now New Years have been like for you. Keep the faith man. You have a large and welcoming family right here. Time to look forward and work toward enjoying life again.

Happy New Year!

Bob,
Our new years celebration will also be quiet. I've spent much of today preparing my little coupe (Butters) for a drive train. We'll put it in tomorrow. The day off is just a chance to get caught up on projects for us!

Personally, I'm also glad 2007 is over. Here's to a GREAT 08 Bob!

Bob, have a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year. It's not about the holiday, it's about your outlook for the future. Best wishes from your small amphibian friends.

Thanx, guys.

It is going to take a long time to fill the hole in my heart, but with good words from the gang, it makes it a bt easier.

I too am glad to close the books on 2007.

My best wishes to all of you.

Pray you do not grow old and wind up alone.

I never thought it would work out that way......

On Dec. 31, 2001, my wife and I were celebrating her birthday in Times Square. We were in amongst thousands of people and a NYPD Lt. was standing right in front of me. Michelle and I couldn't see the ball but we heard the crowd. Just as the roar began the Lt. held out his hand and said with warmth and earnestness, "Happy New Year." Out of the hundreds of thousands of people, it was stunning to share a moment with someone I had never met.

Happy New Year, Bob.

Bob,

No cheering here either. You certainly have my sympathy as I am in a similar situation. Although being new years does not matter for me as I never understood the reason for celebrating the passing of time in our short lives.

You are on to something. Every day the world ends for thousands. It makes me wonder what precisely is the meaning of life, and whether there is a "higher meaning" somewhere. I have had some experiences in the past year that some would conclude were Imaginings, but I am not so convinced. The universe is far too complex to rule out anything in my opinion. I can give you one. In February of 2007, I had a nightmare two nights in a row "You have 100 days", and it scared me. I thought it meant me. So, I spent the 100 days redoing everything in the house to make life easier should I "go away". Here is the wierd part. Kathryn had her colonoscopy just about 100 days after the nightmare. I cannot explain that. I don't think anyone can. I am not supersticious nor am I insane. But what I am posting is the absolute truth.

Bob,

Living is a weird experience. It is a constant pendulum between joy and sorrow, boredom and anxiety. The human brain is an extremely competent science fiction engine, giving it´s owner the full Monty of more or less tolerable sensations. No matter how blue I may feel, I can always argue emphatically that there are right at this moment a thousand people that objectively are much worse off. Some events, facts and situations tend to make me feel good. Some make me feel awfully bad. But I am still here, breathing, living and with at least a couple of decades to go. I may suffer, but I am determined to make the best of it. At least to feel as good as I possibly can and enjoy as many days as possible without letting other people piss on my parade by feeling sorry for me.

May you have a 2008 of more happiness and joy. You deserve it and owe it to yourself.

we've spent the past 4 months or so watching my wife's father die of cancer. he is seemingly in his final days and it has been enormously hard on my wife and her mom. her father has been in and out of the hospital with pneumonia, delirium and paranoia from the pain meds, tearful goodbye's in the ICU two weeks ago (then released the next day!)....it's been a very rough time and has colored my view of the world in a way that will probably never change. i can't bear to look at pictures from Christmas because my wife's father was in bad shape that day. new year's, which has never been a big deal to me, was just another day off for my 3yr old and I without the pleasure of my wife's company because she's been to the hospital and assisting her mom and father.

i personally don't know the pain you are feeling but i am getting a glimpse at it through my wife and....well i feel for you. i think it's great that you are able to discuss it here on the forum.

the world ends for thousands of people every day; what a statement that is. people are enduring pain that some of us can not imagine (could be our neighbor or a coworker or the lady in the checkout line.....could be anybody) and i, for one, will be a lot more gentle with people i am in contact with in the coming years. you just don't know.

God bless you and your family.
