My Little Buddy Isn't doing well Today:-(

Well, my 21 year old cat, Carrera is having a very bad day. I woke up this morning and he was on the floor (he never sleeps there) and was moving really slow, and talking very loud. I was thinking that because it got cold, maybe he has atheist and it is acting up.
He laid in front of a heater on the porch, on his pillow, rear legs extended, but would yell every time I went by, wouldn't take any water when I brought it to him, even when I tried to hand feed it to him, but this evening, he wanted to come in my office, still having trouble walking so I put him in my (his) chair (I get a few inches at the end) and he laid there, talking until I petted him, and every time I get up, he yells. Now it is after 9PM, he is still the same, not active, but making noise if I get up and I am really worried, he has been fine until today, good spirits, eating, drinking (water, I don't let him have beer or liquor) running around. So this caught me off guard, I cancled a date tonight so I could stay close, but I am worried. In April, he will be 22, I don't have any kids but have had him since the Simpsons were a short on Tracy Ullman, longer than some have had kids and he really is like my kid, when no one else has been there, Carrera. He has Cancer behind his eye, but that hasn't stopped him, my Vet calls him "The Ancient Cat" and couldn't believe how much he still generally eats (stealing a piza slize off my plate) but he didn't try and take my breakfast or lunch (he tried to steal my lunch yesterday) and right now, he isn't even taking the sliced cheese from my salad (which he loves) that I set infront of him. I just hope & pray that this isn't anything but a bad day:(

So sorry to hear your pal is under. Seems a lot of us have gone through this this year. It must be our age. hang in there and do the right thing if you have to, hard as it may be. Your pal will be grateful.

Man, I hope 2008 isn't as bad as 2007 for the pets of pelican (and the members ferpetesake).

Here's a little prayer for Carrera, Byron. Love him!

Hang in there Byron!
I always start to worry when one of my cats starts acting strange. More often then not it is a mood.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Carrera.

Aww man, I hope he pulls through okay.

Cool looking cat - bet he's usually a lot of fun!

Poor little buddy. Keep him comfortable and let him know he's loved. That's what he lives for.

Good luck!

Thanks for the words of support guys, but he isn't moving much, but if I move, he screams (like he did when I first found him):( He seems pretty weak), so I can only hope & pray, the mobile vet is coming tomorror.

We're pullin' for you guys.

Fingers crossed Byron.

Our 9 year old cat has just been diagnosed with diabetes and now we have to inject her morning and evening. It's a pain in the arse, but what else do you do...

Quick calculation... Wow, Carrera is like, 100+ in our years...

Pulling for the both of you, Byron. He's taken care of you, I'm sure he's happy to know that you are taking care of him. He looks like a very good monster cat - and a very good buddy.

Hang in there.

VINMAN 01-04-2008 04:27 AM

Hang in there Byron!!

Byron,
Very sorry to hear your buddy is ailing. Even though you describe him "talking"... is it actually pain? Cause it sounds from your description like he's always been vocal? Hope the vet can find a fixable problem and fix it.

Wow, I thought my recently departed best buddy, Dudley, the 100 lb, 14 year old Lab was old. Isn't 22 years like incredibly old for a cat? Best wishes for you both.

jhynesrockmtn 01-04-2008 04:41 AM

Sorry to hear this. It's amazing how these little creatures get ahold of your heart.

I took in a stray last year that I thought was a kitten for a few days. Turned out it was so old it had no teeth and wasn't healthy. Still had fight in her though and we made her comfortable for several weeks. One of my labs, Kona made her feel welcome.

My son called her Towlie after the South Park character. When she meowed it sounded like Towlie. Wanna get high???

Best of luck.
