The thing that really surprised me about Iowa was Ron Paul's relative strength and Guiliani's abysmal loss.

A school which did not teach religion to five years olds................going to be a long election season I can tell.

legion 01-04-2008 06:43 AM

You still haven't proven how "muslim background" is code for "black man".

I have proven that he does, in fact, have a well-documented muslim background. That doesn't mean that he is a muslim.

Moneyguy1 01-04-2008 06:45 AM

One can be raised in one social/religious background and not remain in that situation when an adult. I cannot judge a person on their parentage.

Why would that surprise you? Guiliani completely blew off Iowa. It is all about money, those who spent money in Iowa did better than those who did not...it is quite simple really.

Which is why on this topic you can be filled as a liberal, you have thought and figured out something for yourself.

In general a conservative on the other hand is far less likely to rationalize and much more likely to judge on parentage or society status, a conservative approach if you will.

Ya know when I started voting thirty years ago I don't remember a candidates religion being such a big issue. I also remember at that time we didn't make up silly names for each candidate... as in we all showed a little respect for the office of the president no matter how much you disliked the persons running for the position.

But enough of all this pissing and moaning... the real question should be... who is the best musician?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1199462454.jpg

I voted for Bill twice... and I would love to see Hillary win just to piss off all you conservatives, but I really do like Huckabee and he would get my vote if it came down to it.

Moneyguy1 01-04-2008 07:15 AM

kach..

If that part of me, thinking for myself, is "Liberal", in that narrow category I will carry that label with some degree of pride. On other things, like the economy and "special interests", I am so not liberal.........

I cannot understand the need to take a physical attribute of an individual and make fun of it. I do not think any of us would take it kindly if a loved one were treated that way. I would, in fact, have FLATTENED anyone who had made fun of my wife when she was alive.

A fair point, but in this case we've shown Hillary perhaps even more respect than her "husband" ever did.

Um, so it is okay to do it then? right.

On Huck
Huckabee, on the morning talk shows, pitched his tax plan to anti-tax New Hampshire Republicans, and asserted his campaign is about much more than the Christian conservatives who lifted him in Iowa. "What we're seeing is that this campaign is not just about people who have religious fervor," he said. "It's about people who love America, but want it to be better and believe that change is necessary and it's not going to happen from within Washington."

What does that mean? He wants to be President in Washington but change cannot come from Washington? Or is he taking a swipe at all currently elected congressman and senators?

Yes, joking about public figures(especially politicians) is definitely OK. If any group on earth deserves ridicule for public amusement it's them.

Moneyguy1 01-04-2008 07:27 AM

len.....like "Hitlerly" and "Her Royal Thighness"? What do terms like that add to a discussion or is it just a way of getting rid of frustration? I haven't done a thorough "look-see", but it does appear that there are more derogatory comments made about the Democratic candidates than against the Republicans. Why is this?

I, for one, would be VERY interested in how people REALLY feel about the myrad problems facing the nation and world, rather than reducing them to personal attacks.

You mean if someone's parents were from eastern Europe and spoke Yiddish, it would be stupid to say they have a "Jewish background".

Who has said anything about Obama's beliefs? We were talking about his background. You don't seem able to tell the difference.

lendaddy 01-04-2008 07:32 AM

Certainly for humor but in no small part to blow off steam.

The issues most certainly do not get ignored here, but without the levity I wouldn't bother.

Moneyguy1 01-04-2008 07:34 AM

Some humor can be really mean spirited and juvenile, don't you agree?

Further, does this form of humor ever help to solve a problem or just deepen the divde?

Mostly it's just entertainment Bob. Juvenile and mean spirited, yes...but entertaining as hell:)

Moneyguy1 01-04-2008 07:42 AM

I see it as a safety valve, but there are a few here on both sides that see it differently. It makes me wonder how well we reflect the nation as a whole re: attitude.

I cannot explain it, but I do have a problem (not a big one, mind you) with narrow categories. Maybe it is in part having a friend when a kid who was always referred to as "stupid" (he wasn't), but after a while, he began to believe it.
