Losing internet service when downloading w/ torrent

I have Embarq DSL service and when I try to download using a bit torrent it seems to crash ever few minutes. No matter the file size or website. The embarq box cycles back through its start up mode.

I use a computer everyday but know little about these type of things. Anyone know what the hell is going on?

Do you have the correct ports open on your router?

Terry,

This article explains what might be happening - and to what Wayne is referring.

Tried Wayne's route and still crashes. I'm assuming I need to open the ports and forward them.

My guess is that you could be trying to setup a ton of TCP connections and may be crashing your router. Basically, you could be DDoSing yourself.

Is there a newer firmware/code available for your router? If there is, it might be worth trying to upgrade.
